Under supervision and/or direction, oversee and coordinate the daily operations and activities of the assigned instructional laboratory. Provide technical assistance to students and faculty performing research and accessing instructional resources. Demonstrate learning, scientific and technical principles through classroom experiments. The work involves set-up and organizing work areas for classroom instruction, and coordinating with and providing instructional assistance services to faculty. Plan activities, order and pick-up supplies and materials, maintain facility, check/maintain equipment, and schedule student assistants and/or staff in order to meet instructional objectives. The incumbent follows specific guidelines developed by faculty/supervisor in providing instructional support in the laboratory and the completed work is reviewed for adherence to the guidelines and accuracy of the information provided.
Contacts are with administrators, faculty, staff, students and representatives of external organizations such as vendors, instructors, and industry specific professional associations.Duties include but are not limited to:
- Identify instructional activities that will support the instructional objectives of the laboratory.
- Organize the work and set-up equipment, instruments and tools for use by students.
- Provide direction in the facilitation of student laboratory experiences.
- Assemble and check equipment for proper operation and adjust equipment as necessary.
- Construct apparatus or devices as may be required.
- Maintain the laboratory and ensure that they are clean and in good order.
- Ensure that supplies and equipment is properly stored and secured, and control access to laboratory areas.
- Maintain system and applications software, peripheral equipment, boards and add-ons, productivity utilities and other special purpose software and hardware products.
- Work with the Office of Information Technology to install and test software and hardware.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise student assistants, volunteers, and temporary staff assigned to the program.
- Coordinate and assign work, monitor and provide training on safe work practices and procedures.
- Prepare requisitions and places orders to maintain an inventory of equipment, software, materials and supplies.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, clean and orderly learning environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in the subject area to which the position is assigned.
- Four years of experience performing instructional assistant/associate duties.
- The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Four years of experience working in an academic or industry setting performing laboratory duties and providing user support experiences with computer systems, software and presentation equipment.
- Four years of experience in multicultural customer service in an educational or learning environment/community, business, or social service organization working with diverse populations.
- Two years of progressive experience working with database management.
- Two years of progressive experience with event coordination.
- Experience serving under-served populations.
- Proficient with computer applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Experience providing technical assistance on Mac operating systems, MacBooks, and iPads.
