Job description

Job Summary:
This position functions as part of the School of Human Ecology (SoHE) Business Office under the general direction of the Financial Manager in processing purchasing, travel and expense reimbursement transactions. The Financial Specialist will become knowledgeable in UW Madison financial policies and procedures to serve as a primary resource for SoHE faculty, staff and graduate students seeking direction, training, and problem resolution related to financial transactions, policies, and procedures. This position will become proficient in processing financial transactions using UW purchasing, reimbursement and other financial systems.
Responsibilities: Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of advanced financial transactions. May prepare some financial transactions and reconciles transactions. Recommends controls and process improvements, troubleshoots advanced financial errors. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management.

  • 10% Audits, monitors, organizes, and updates fiscal records, reports, and affiliated materials
  • 5% Creates general reporting for transactions
  • 25% Audits or processes advanced transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • 20% Audits or reconciles original purchase documents with payments
  • 5% Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • 10% Drafts communications and advanced reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • 20% Answers advanced fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • 5% Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of experience in a professional work environment
- Experience managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
- Experience with common business and financial processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and other Office applications)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education or public sector work environment
- Experience in a customer service position
- Experience with complex automated accounting systems
Work Schedule:
8AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:
Minimum $23.50 HOURLY

The starting hourly rate for this position is listed as $23.50 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
