Financial Counselors identify and assist patients who are unable to pay their estimated liability prior to treatments or to assist patients who have large existing balances. This assistance includes:
- Assessing a patient's liability
- Linking patients to available funding sources, such as Medi-Cal and Medicare
- Determining whether a patient is eligible for charity care or financial hardship treatment
- Review of hospital charges, the patient's insurance status and financial resources
- It may include the completion of appropriate applications and diligent follow up for approval.
- Checks eligibility and benefits, determines authorization requirements have been met.
- Interprets and documents the appropriate co-pay, deductible, share of cost, co-insurance, maximum benefit levels and/or available days
- Prioritizes work assigned to them to ensure that financial risk is minimized, and timely completion of authorizations is optimized, while meeting daily productivity measure goals.
- Epic experience is REQUIRED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
At least 2 years of healthcare experience in a Financial Counselor role
Must be multi-task orientated with excellent critical thinking skills and possess the ability to appropriately handle complexity and stress within the changing needs of the patients, families and the health system.
Applies strong problem solving skills to help address the concerns and needs of the patients that the Financial Counselors serve.
Maintains professional communication with various Patient Financial Clearance
Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish) - Preferred
Demonstrates proficiency as applicable with Epic, insurance websites, POS payment systems, web-based screening tools
