Overview: Care Camps Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller consultant to join our team. This position is primarily responsible for the financial management, operations, compliance, and accountability of Care Camps Foundation. This position reports to the Executive Director and will participate with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director, and staff in charting the organization’s direction and assuring its financial accountability to all constituencies. This position is also the primary contact for all financial intermediaries on behalf of Care Camps Foundation. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate financial information to stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Perform all accounting duties, including bookkeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable, processing payroll, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Ensure the accuracy of Care Camps Foundation financial books to maintain transparency standards. Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Produce monthly financial reports for Care Camps Foundation’s senior leadership and board to fulfill their fiduciary oversight responsibilities. Present organizational financials and projections at Board meetings.
- Provide for an audit by an independent, qualified auditing firm on an annual basis. Serve as the main liaison with the Care Camps Foundation’s accounting firm on the annual audit, filing of tax returns and filing of the employer retirement account.
- Ensure all tax reports and filings are submitted in a timely manner.
- Manage needs for state fundraising registrations and insurance renewals.
- Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board.
- Ensure that the organization complies with all legislation covering taxation and withholding payments.
- Work with the Executive Director and Executive Committee to prepare a comprehensive budget.
- Works with the Executive Director to administer employee benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans.
Fundraising Operations
- Process and compile pledges of Care Camps Foundation’s donations; communicate with gift processing staff/personnel on a timely basis for the purpose of gift receipting.
- Process financial information, requests, reports, and contributions received.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five years of successful experience in financial management, as a Controller or similar accounting position.
- Financial education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the job.
- Previous experience in a non-profit or grant making organization preferred, experience successfully administering grant funds is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate with staff, and external constituents.
- Demonstrated flexibility, mature judgment, and ability to function professionally under stress.
- Strong ability to approach tasks from a customer service orientation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and financial management software, including QuickBooks.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a flexible and entrepreneurial environment.
- Demonstrated experience directing and implementing new financial systems, processes, and technology to enhance internal operations and organizational effectiveness.

Classification: This is a flexible consulting position that will require approximately 15-20 hours per week.
Work environment: The Care Camps Foundation office is based in Billings, Montana, and the Controller consultant can tele-commute. Minimal travel may be required to support Care Camps Foundation meetings and costs will be reimbursed.
