Job Description
The purpose of the Financial Aid Specialist position is to provide support to the Financial Aid office in award processing, loan processing, and electronic processing. Duties include but are not limited to: Verifying required student data; supporting the student loan program with entrance counseling and student processing; Processing Financial Aid awards and loans; Providing electronic support for various processes; Receiving visitors and phone calls, answering inquiries, and providing assistance with information; Maintaining student files; Preparing correspondence, forms, memos, and other documents; Database entry and retrieval of information regarding student Financial Aid; Other duties according to the overall needs of the office, or as assigned by supervisor.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Required Education
Bachelors degree
Required Experience
Minimum of 2 years of related experience, preferably in Financial Aid or a related profession. Knowledge of database programs and experience working with large databases preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of database programs and experience working with large databases preferred
- Strong problem-solving abilities including resolving discrepancies with data
- A positive and customer-focused attitude
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to manage multiple complex and time sensitive projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to keep abreast of federal, state and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Student Information System - Banner preferred
- Experience working with technical and non-technical staff at all organization levels
- Experience with industry resources such as FSA Partner Connect, NASFAA

20 hrs/week between 8:30-5:00 Mon-Thur and/or Fri 8:30-4:30
