The Opportunity

As a dedicated Financial Accountant Seniorfor theCorporate Real Estate and Workplace Services (CREWS) team, you will execute complex accounting functions, including preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations, preparation of financial results for internal and external purposes, audit support, and financial analysis. Performs in an advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies. Serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced team members and resolves issues and navigates obstacles to deliver results.

This role involves development and engagement with cross functional teams and/or processes in the end-to-end delivery of Capital Plans, Forecasts, and Reporting. Will use financial principles to solve complex problems in three primary areas of responsibility: Multi-year Corporate Services (CS) Capital Plan formation, monthly CS Capital Forecast reporting and management, and monthly management of CS Construction in Progress (CIP) Project tracking tool, to include General Ledger reconciliation, and timely Fixed Asset Transfers, Modifications, and Retirements.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in our San Antonio, TX office location. Relocation assistance is available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Applies advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) and regulatory accounting treatment to complex accounting transactions and shares understanding of key implications.

  • May assist team members in developing knowledge of various accounting transactions.

  • Makes recommendations, prepares and communicates processes and procedures, financial results and analysis to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assists in resolving accounting issues and makes recommendations to leadership.

  • Performs in a financial accounting advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies. Collaborates and maintains strong relationships with business partners.

  • Leads special projects related to financial accounting and coordinates with key stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate completion.

  • Resolves issues and provides informed, proactive reporting and analysis to enable effective decision making.

  • Develops and maintains processes, procedures and tools impacting financial accounting that may impact the finance organization.

  • Facilitates and reviews internal controls to ensure an effective and efficient financial system.

  • Reviews the work of team members and provides guidance and coaching when issues arise.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; OR a Bachelor's degree in another field coupled with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree when coupled with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.

  • 6 years of relevant work experience performing accounting functions including preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations and preparing financial results for internal and external purposes or other similar experience.

  • Advanced knowledge and application of GAAP and STAT or regulatory accounting practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner and communicate effectively with internal and external team members.

  • Advanced knowledge of financial or accounting data analysis techniques and statistical methodologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant technical accounting and reporting disciplines.

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Word.

What sets you apart:

  • Experience performing standard accounting functions specific in project/construction accounting and fixed asset areas including preparing and reviewing journal entries, CIP reconciliations, asset retirements and preparing financial results for internal purposes or other similar experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of Real Estate and construction financial practices, with significant business and industry acumen.

  • Experience related to third party project management and others responsible for executing capital projects to monitor Actual Spend, Work in Place (WIP) Accruals, Full-Year Forecasts (FYF) and Estimates at Completion (EAC).

  • Experience aggregating monthly project financials to measure overall performance against Capital Plan, reports variances and collaborating with team members to identify strategic opportunities to manage to plan.

  • Experience preparing building and non-building inputs (Cognos tool) for capital acquisitions and associated depreciation forecasts for capital projects.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret new and proposed changes to asset profiles, depreciation terms and capitalization thresholds.

  • Experience performing and maintaining Internal Controls for Reporting (ICFR) and any related User Defined Applications (UDA’s).

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $81,770.00 - $156,290.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
