What’s the role?
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance and general upkeep of leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing systems working with our MeRiT ebeam repair. This position is field based in Hillsboro OR, and is in particular tied to our Intel semiconductor manufacturing customer.

Here’s what you’ll do:
- Daily work on-site at customer location each day to support contractual obligations that ZEISS has with its customers
- Troubleshooting all system errors and making appropriate system repairs
- Scheduling and completion of recommended preventative maintenance
- Reporting all system issues and utilization of all parts and associated labor for daily activities in a series of company reports
- Ability to travel, including internationally, for training and for customer support
- Ability to work in a semiconductor clean room environment (FAB) adhering to all specific customer cleanroom protocols
- Ability to follow procedures and instructions and to write procedures if needed.
- Excellent written and verbal (both in-person and via phone) communication skills to inform the ZEISS team and customers about complex technical issues, maintenance schedules, performance to schedule, etc.
- High desire to be a part of a local and remote team including: ability to build and maintain excellent professional relationships; willingness to receive critical feedback and make necessary adjustments to work style; willingness to work in an apprentice-type relationship with a senior team member, etc.
- High motivation to provide world-class customer service including ability to provide customer support after normal working hours and during weekends if needed
Do you qualify?
- Technical education in the field of mechanical, electrical or IT engineering is required
- Preferred: experience as a field-based Service Engineer
- Strong affinity to learn new technology in detail including willingness to travel internationally for training purposes
Working Conditions and Special Demands:
- Ability to lift 50lbs; ability to stand for long periods; ability to stoop, squat, kneel, twist and lay down in the course of equipment repair.
- Ability to work long hours inside a semiconductor cleanroom (FAB). Requires following of all customer cleanroom protocols.
- Position requires OT including weekends as required.
- Position requires working with laser systems and potentially hazardous chemistries.
- Position requires ability and dexterity to perform very complex system alignments and adjustments.
