Job Summary
The Field Mechanic reports directly to the Branch Manager and will perform hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting/assessment, and repair work on centrifugal pumps & other diesel-powered rental equipment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans, lubricates, and performs other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles in the shop and in the field.
- Dismantles and reassembles equipment using hoists and hand tools, as needed.
- Operates and inspects pumps and equipment to diagnose defects.
- Assist in the overhaul and testing of pumps and equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, repairing and replacing damaged or worn parts.
- Troubleshoots and rewires basic electrical systems.
- Assists in the testing of mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
- Researches, orders, and maintains the inventory of parts for service and repairs.
- Maintains proper records in compliance with Griffin Dewatering standards.
- Maintain a neat & organized work area.
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner.
- All work will be performed in the shop or in the field.
- Must participate in after-hours/weekend on-call rotation with other mechanics, currently rotating weekly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- 3+ years’ experience working with diesel engines or equivalent required.
- Experience with centrifugal pumps and pumping-related equipment preferred, but not required.
- Experience with service programs such as CAT E.T & John Deere Service Advisor preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work independently performing in-depth technical equipment service and maintenance.

- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to accurately take measurements, complete documentation to ensure quality craftsmanship, and reference proper standards.

Job Requirements
- Legal to work in US.
- Pass required drug and background screens.
- Minimum High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience troubleshooting and mechanical repairs.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and stand.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to load, unload, and move large equipment and tools.
- Continuous walking, stair climbing, and lifting.
