This is a Remote Field Position focused on supporting our Ohio territory. The role will involve spending some time in our Columbus office and the remaining time on job sites across the state. The Field Engineer/Inspector III reviews work and inspections at project sites and is responsible for managing and ensuring compliance of Outside Plant construction, Splicing and Systems project specifications. They are to ensure work at existing and previous job sites is completed safely and efficiently and according to industry standards and specifications.
The Field Engineer III will work closely with contractors and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and with respect to private property and within the project plan.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
  • End-to-End Project ownership to include project kick off meeting with stakeholders, scheduling, scope and budget tracking, project management of internal and external team members.
  • Lead, ensure and maintain adherence to health and safety regulations to aid in reduction of safety issues, at all times.
  • Manage and inspect fiber optic cable placement, fiber drop installations and associated construction activities.
  • Manage and ensure compliance of:
    • Outside Plant construction project specifications and troubleshooting of issues and roadblocks.
    • Fiber and Fiber Splicing specifications and trouble shooting of issues and roadblocks.
    • Systems project specifications and troubleshooting of issues and roadblocks.
  • Monitor and report on aerial and underground fiber optic construction crew progress and quality of installation.
  • Orchestrate internal and external customer project communication dependencies, timeline, milestones, and progress.
  • Plan and organize production schedules.
  • Work transparently and proactively to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Oversee the QA/QC inspection of job sites, work progress, work completed, construction crews, and subcontractors and coordinate with Construction Manager on completion of as-builts.
  • Oversee equipment, material, and routine site inspections and ensure completion of appropriate forms to ensure compliance.
  • Manage overall compliance with quality control, and quality assurance standards and specifications.
  • Conduct new substructure site surveys and site walks.
  • Interpret contract documents for the contractor, as necessary, to assist with compliance with the terms of the construction contract, including plans and specifications.
  • Provide redline updates to construction plans.
  • Correct ‘as builts’ where inspection has been observed and record the ‘as-built’ inventory units and routing; keep corrections of these documents current for all aerial and underground projects and for splicing, and systems project construction drawings providing details requested by customer that include inventory units and routing, attachment types, attachment heights, clearances over/under major crossings and location of all installed underground facilities.
  • Maintain quality control reports.
  • Coordinate and document any communications with the Contractor that may be interpreted as a change in the terms of the contract or other changes that may affect the construction cost or performance.
  • Communicate regularly with Area Manager regarding problems or issues impacting production.
  • Report daily on production capturing quantities for work performed.
  • Involvement in site evaluation for bidding purposes.
  • Identify, meet and/or exceed client expectations within defined parameters related to delivery of services, quality, revenue, and sales goals.
  • Represent Congruex and Client in a professional manner, fostering a healthy workplace environment on all aspects of the jobsite.
  • Travel to and supervise multiple job sites during the course of a day.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
General
  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships and resolve conflict:
    • At times may be required to interact with customers and landowners representing Gudenkauf.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and supervise others.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and specifications.
  • Extended travel may be required, on occasion (out of market).
  • Must be able to work long hours (overtime), weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background screen including an acceptable motor vehicle report.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Ability to stand, stoop, squat, and bend for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to walk for extended periods of time and/or long distances.
    • Ability to navigate through potential uneven walkways/terrain.
    • Ability to work and tolerate extreme elements (heat, cold, sun, wind, rain, snow, etc.).
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Technical
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in OSP construction and installation.
  • Working knowledge of Outside Plant, Fiber, and field operations processes required for each project inclusive of budget, design, engineering, permitting, construction, splicing, and close out packages.
  • Skilled in interpreting telecommunications construction drawings in hard copy and digital format.
  • Experience in Aerial and Underground, Splicing, testing and Systems telecommunications construction methods and specifications.
  • Experience in construction quality management and assurance.
  • Certification and knowledge of Trench safety.
  • Working knowledge and ability reading and interpreting telecommunications construction drawings in hard copy and digital format and verify production.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, read and redline construction prints.
  • Working knowledge of Google Earth/Maps.
  • Proven understanding of compliance and quality assurance guidelines and best practices.
  • GIS experience
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working as a technical construction supervisor.
  • CDL Driver is a plus.
