FEDERAL WORK STUDY PROGRAM - Computer Sciences

 

This job is a Federal Work Study, non-benefited position in the Computer Science Division that reports to the Cybersecurity Program Director. Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program by the Department of Education. This program provides part-time jobs for undergraduate students with significant financial need and is administered by the FWS Coordinator, and the Office of Financial Aid, in accordance with the law, federal regulations, and with instructions from the United States Department of Education.

 

Salary - $13.50 per hour.

 

Hours:  Flexible, depending upon applicant's availability

Minimum Qualifications:
Work Study eligible Gwinnett Technical College student for current semester.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience or certification in A+, Net+, Angel, Microsoft Office, Banner Web, and any other computer certification is a plus.  Preference will be given to applicants who are current students at Gwinnett Technical College in the Computer Science Division.

 Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours and be able to handle confidential information.  Excellent PC troubleshooting, operating system, hardware (switches, routers, cables), cd/dvd burning, and communication skills required. Ability to be flexible in working conditions, schedule, and be able to lift 40 to 50 lbs. Open to training and skills development. We also require the following skills: ability to multitask, stay on top of deadlines, fast learner, training skills, reporting/documenting capabilities, and excellent people skills.

Job Description Summary:
Under general supervision, assists the student computer user at Gwinnett Technical College.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

 

Provides oral and written reports as required.

  1. Performs basic administrative/clerical tasks to support the daily operation of the computer lab. 

  2. Carefully listens to student(s) and offers encouragement and support. 

  3. Maintains a positive, warm attitude that encourages the student(s) to learn.

  4. Informs appropriate staff about changes in meeting times.

  5. Performs basic administrative/clerical tasks to support the daily operations of the computer lab.

  6. Establishes and maintains records/files relating to the program's mission (daily sign in logs, if necessary). Operates computers, copiers, and other office equipment; performs routine user preventive maintenance on office equipment. Initiates, composes and accurately types correspondence and administrative documents according to established guidelines.

  7. Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.

  8. Demonstrates eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seeks out and accepts increased responsibility; displays a "can do" approach to work.

  9. Shows persistence and seeks alternatives when obstacles arise; seeks alternative solutions; does things before being asked or forced to by events.

  10. Works within the system in a resourceful manner to accomplish reasonable work goals; shows flexibility in response to process change and adapts to and accommodates new methods and procedures.

  11. Accepts direction and feedback from supervisor and follows through appropriately.

  12. Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; calls in according to policy when arriving late for work or when absent; observes provisions of Fair Labor Standards Act; observes policies on break and lunch periods; uses work time appropriately.
