PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The hiring salary for this position is: $18.00/Hourly
**This job announcement is for collecting candidate applications for current and future Farm Caretakers. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the needs of the position. **
This is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-benefit Employee), this position do not provide medical benefits. The position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
  • Provide daily care for sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, and more at the Plains Conservation Center.
  • Perform daily upkeep of vegetable, fruit, and herb garden plants and trees.
  • This is a part-time (less than 30 hours/week) position that includes weekends.
  • The position supports the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department vision of connecting with the community and being acknowledged as an essential service defining the quality of life in Aurora.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Farm animal (sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, donkeys, alpacas, etc.) care and upkeep to include feeding, watering, interaction, welfare checks, fence/pen repair and maintenance, etc.
  • Garden maintenance to include watering, irrigation system repair & maintenance, weeding, harvesting, etc.
  • Tree maintenance to include watering, weeding, mulching, etc.
  • Routine janitorial duties.
  • Provide support and assistance to staff that provide environmental education programming at the site.
  • Natural area invasive species management.
  • Properly operate and maintain equipment.
  • Updates records concerning materials and equipment used.
  • Provide information to the public regarding resources, uses, rules, fees, etc.
  • Assist in special event/project implementation.
  • Perform snow/ice removal as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

  • Methods, materials, equipment, and operating procedures utilized in the assigned functions.
  • Hazards and safety practices common to machinery and equipment utilized.

  • Safe and effective use of equipment and supplies. Abilities:
  • Operation of equipment and tools of assigned function.

Licenses and Certificates Required:
  • Current Driver’s License with good driving record.
  • Colorado Basic Pesticide Training Certificate or ability to obtain within 2 months.
Essential Personnel:
  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
  • Heavy work that involves moving no more than 100 pounds with or without assistance at a time.
  • Continuous walking and standing to implement projects.
  • Continuous pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing to implement work.
  • Continuous hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of equipment and vehicles.
  • Continuous vision to read reports, manuals, written materials, instruments and gauges.
  • Continuous good speech communication, hearing, and listening for effective communication with others.
Work Environment:
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and fumes.
Equipment Used:
  • Operates equipment and vehicles common to maintenance functions.
  • Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases as a part of a library of automated systems. · This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
