JOB GOAL:

To advance the college’s mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision, the instructor is responsible for fostering student learning in the area of Landscape Horticulture in career and technical education (CTE) for the Agricultural Sciences Department. A course load of 15 credit hours per semester is required. Teaching load will be assigned by the Administration and may include evening courses. Teaching responsibilities may include but not limited to: Landscape Construction, Hardscape Installation, Landscape Business Operations, and Equipment Operations. Must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in assigned courses in accordance with department, division, and college policies and procedures. Responsibilities will also include recruiting of prospective students, mentoring students, utilize Kirkwood learning management system, teach in a variety of modalities (in-person, hybrid and online), and providing assistance in development and implementation of departmental initiatives. Must be responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of an individual Professional Preparation Plan as outlined in the College's Quality Faculty Plan.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Effectively organize, prepare, and teach assigned courses in accordance with established syllabi.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate course syllabi and course handouts for each course taught.
  • Evaluate and record student performance/achievement on a regular basis and provide students with timely feedback utilizing Kirkwood online learning management system.
  • Participate in student learning assessment projects.
  • Maintain established office hours and meet with students as necessary.
  • Manage and maintain landscaping laboratory/shop, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Collaborate in the development, assessment, and revision of curriculum.
  • Participate in the development and/or execution of departmental tasks and projects in the area of instruction or instructional support.
  • Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Participate regularly in professional development and growth activities such as internal and external workshops, and conferences.

Position involves working in an educational setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates Degree in Horticulture or other programming-related discipline.
  • Three years of recent, relevant full time work experience.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or other programming-related discipline.
  • Five years of recent, relevant full time work experience.
  • Community College teaching experience.
  • Pesticide Applicators Certification
  • Commercial Driver’s License
