Position Summary
The Washington University School of Medicine Operations & Facilities Management Department provides a range of services for the medical campus in a customer-focused, efficient, and sustainable manner.
Operations & Facilities Management maintains 61 university buildings and provides operational, planning, and construction services to over 8.3 million gross square feet of space. We will open three new facilities between 2023 and 2025 with over 1.5M BGSF. In addition, the School of Medicine continues expanding its reach on and off campus in teaching, clinical care, and research. Our team plays a vital and important role in delivering care, research, and services.
The position is Fire Alarm Technician II for Washington University School of Medicine. The position provides expertise in all areas of Fire Protection maintenance, installations, repairs, and troubleshooting and will be dedicated to learning the Fire Protection Systems on campus.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of different Fire Control Systems (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Notifier, etc.).
  • Draining and Filling Wet Sprinkler Systems.
  • Fire Pump Testing (Knowledge of how to perform testing).
  • Knowledge of testing Fire Protection Systems (Requirements and how to perform testing).
  • Knowledge of Fire Protection Codes.
  • Prioritizes work and makes initial assessments of conditions and service needs.
  • Plans and completes the repairs on sprinkler and fire protection systems and controls for short-range projects.
  • Estimates labor time, requisitions materials needed, and requests other maintenance staff assistance for long-range projects.
  • Monitors outside service schedules and equipment installation by outside contractors.
  • Monitors service schedules/coordinates any interruptions in service (utility outages).
  • Interfaces with customers to schedule/coordinate any interruptions in service (utility outages).
  • Follows through on work in progress to verify proper facility conditions are restored.
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving fire protection systems.
  • Keeps Building Services supervisors aware of facility conditions, problems, and needs.
  • Maintains effective communication with other Facility Maintenance Coordinators and other maintenance staff.

Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing more than 50 pounds and carry items weighing 200 pounds with assistance.
  • Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring, and equipment.
  • Handles a variety of hand and power tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical Background (Fire Control Systems or Electronics).
  • Ability to diagnose/resolve varied maintenance problems involving Sprinkle and Fire Protection Control systems.
  • Resolves maintenance problems promptly to avoid disruption/delay in the work environment to staff or the public.
  • Near-visual acuity is needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts.
  • Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision needed to fit and install parts.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in carpentry, plumbing and/or energy management.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver's license within 30 days of hire.

G08-H
Salary Range
$20.76 - $32.21 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
