The Public Works Department Facilities Division is currently looking to fill one (1) full-time vacancy. This recruitment is being conducted as an Open/Promotional recruitment. Current regular full-time City of Stockton employees may apply for this position as a promotional opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on a promotional list. All other candidates may apply for this position as an open competitive opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on an open list. The appointing authority will have the option of requesting names from the promotional list or a combination of both.
Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the working level class in the janitorial series. Work is performed without immediate supervision in an assigned area. This class is distinguished from Senior Janitor in that the latter is the lead supervisory level in this series, responsible for assigning and reviewing the work of janitorial staff.
Facilities Maintenance Worker II is the fully experienced class in this series, competent to perform basic FACILITIES MAINTENANCE work. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and polishing floors; washing doors, windows, walls, ceilings, venetian blinds and furniture; moving office furniture and equipment; and may make minor repairs. This class is distinguished from Facilities Maintenance Worker III in that the latter performs more complex building maintenance functions and may provide training for new staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Facilities Maintenance Worker II: Possession of a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in janitorial or custodial work, preferably in a class similar to the City's Facilities Maintenance Worker I.
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid California Class "C" driver's license.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation and a California Department of Justice fingerprint clearance prior to appointment.
- Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to maneuver equipment weighing up to forty pounds.
- Must be willing to work out-of-doors in all weather conditions and to work evening shifts, standby, and overtime as necessary.
Applicants who qualify in terms of relevant work experience and education, that best meet the needs of the City, will be invited to participate in the examination process, which may include a written and/or practical examination weighted 100%. However, the City reserves the right to utilize alternative testing methods if deemed necessary. Candidates must receive a minimum passing score of 70%, as determined by the relative performance of all candidates in all portions of the examination. In the event of identical ratings, candidates' names will be arranged in order of application date/time, and, if the same, then arranged alphabetically.
