Description
The City of Littleton is looking for a talented Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our busy Facilities team at the Museum. We offer competitive pay, outstanding benefit plans and year-round, long-term job stability.
Our Facilities Maintenance Technicians perform a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks, small remodel projects, exhibit builds, exhibit lighting, exhibit installation, and light janitorial tasks for the Littleton Museum complex which includes modern buildings, historic structures, and livestock pens and shelters.?Facilities Maintenance Technicians maintain HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems and perform other skilled work and routine unskilled building maintenance work as required.?Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and accepted practices; however, initiative and independent judgment are essential in completing job duties and meeting unusual work circumstances.
This position will perform routine maintenance and repair of various modern and some historic buildings on the Museum property. Additionally, art gallery installations, landscaping and event set-up/coverage are all on the docket for 2024!
The ideal candidate for this position would be self-motivated, dependable, work well independently and on a team, and have a willingness to learn. To excel in this position a mechanical aptitude and knowledge of landscaping, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and comfort with a variety of power tools (table saw, band saw, skill saw, hedge trimmers etc.) would make for a great fit. Due to the variety of work done on a day-to-day basis this candidate must maintain productivity/complete projects. When higher priority emergencies or staff/patron needs arise, it is crucial to return to the previously started task.

Starting pay range $23.28 - $25.74 per hour
This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
Work Schedule: This full-time position will work 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Must be available to 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Must be available to participate in an on-call rotation for nights and weekends.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Checks and maintains building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); electrical; plumbing; and mechanical systems to insure proper operation of these systems. Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance tasks and completes repairs, as necessary, to these systems to insure their proper operation. (Complex electrical work is typically contracted to a licensed provider). Work assignments include, but are not limited to, preventive maintenance on buildings; repair and adjustment of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems; welding; fabrication; and carpentry-type projects.
  • Constructs or assists in building construction and remodeling projects. Projects may include, but are not limited to, construction or remodeling of walls, doors, ceilings, counters, closets, and shelves; installation of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; painting; and woodworking.
  • Routinely opens city buildings, checks HVAC systems for proper operation; walks through building to inspect general condition and lighting; makes minor repairs and adjustments to building and building equipment systems as necessary; replaces light bulbs, lamps, and lighting fixtures as required; notes other building repair needs for future action.
  • Assists other departments and employees, as necessary, with the set-up and teardown of furnishings and fixtures for meetings and special events.
  • Responds as necessary to emergency calls to make temporary or permanent repairs or adjustments to city buildings, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems. Maintains situational emergency security systems.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and interactions with supervisors, other city employees, vendors, and the public through oral and written communications; observes and follows established city and department policies, procedures, rules, orders, and instructions from the supervisor in the daily conduct of the job.
  • Delivers work products and services within the assigned work schedule.
  • This full-time Position requires employee to participate in an on-call schedule and respond, as necessary, to emergency calls for city building maintenance or repairs which may occur outside the assigned work schedule. Compensation for on call duty pay is in accordance with city procedures.
  • Assembles and disassembles furniture, equipment, and shelving.
  • Performs janitorial tasks, as required, to maintain the cleanliness of buildings. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, vacuuming carpets and mopping floors; emptying wastebaskets; dusting surfaces; cleaning restroom sinks, toilets, floors, walls and fixtures.
  • Experience and ability to meet with vendors to determine appropriate products and services.
  • Experience in recommending and scheduling needed maintenance and repair issues; submitting work orders to appropriate departments for internal issues; and contacting outside vendors to request service on other issues and following through.
  • Responsible for managing building special projects with wood and/or metal.
  • Assist with managing an RFP process for facilities-related projects.
  • Performs similar assignments and projects as required.
  • May serve as an emergency worker.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • One (1) year of work experience in Facilities Maintenance, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of formal education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle records check, drug screen and physical.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a municipality and/or museum.
  • Experience in the maintenance of a public building.
  • Experience in maintaining historical structures.
  • Experience in building museum exhibits.
  • Experience in community events.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to work with curatorial staff to design and construct complex museum exhibits
  • Ability to work with curatorial staff to conserve and maintain historic structures.
  • Has a thorough understanding of a variety of HVAC systems/components and is able to perform or direct the maintenance and repair of same: and
  • Demonstrates expertise in the use of multi-meters and electrical diagnosis: and
  • Reads, understands, follows and interprets schematics and drawings associated with electrical, mechanical and building systems: and
  • Demonstrates expertise in the diagnostics and repair of pumps, motors, fans, hydraulics, valves, gears and drives of varying types: and
  • Has training, understanding and functional ability to diagnosis and repair locks, doors and security systems: and
  • Performs expert plumbing repairs and installations: and
  • Able to perform electrical repairs not requiring a licensed professional: and
  • Demonstrated expertise in wood working, tile installation, flooring or other tradecraft: and
  • Ability to maintain inventory of supplies, tools and equipment, contacts vendors and places orders.
  • Requires solid knowledge of the principles, practices, materials, and methods of building construction, remodeling, maintenance and repair; HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment and systems maintenance and repair; welding and fabrication; carpentry; woodworking; general building and Facilities Maintenance and repair,
  • Requires solid knowledge of the principles and practices of equipment operation and use, hand and power tool operation and use,
  • Requires solid mechanical and basic mathematical aptitude, understanding and analytic ability sufficient to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair building equipment and mechanical systems; and operate appropriate electronic testing equipment to perform essential job functions.
  • Requires solid skill and ability to use ladders to access ceiling areas, rooftops, and work at heights of up to 45 feet; work in confined spaces, mechanical and equipment rooms, basements, and crawl spaces.
  • Requires solid ability to communicate verbally, in-person, by telephone and by two-way radio.
  • Requires basic skill and ability to operate software, hardware, Internet browsers, including understanding and operation of software that regulates the heat and cooling systems.
  • Ability to pass a background and physical.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
  • Physical requirements include the performance of heavy work that include but are not limited to lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 150 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Long periods of sitting, standing or walking may be required. Work is primarily performed indoors in an office, mechanical and equipment areas of city buildings. Outdoor work is conducted in mechanical and equipment areas including rooftops of city buildings. This work includes exposure to extreme temperature and weather changes;; HVAC and mechanical equipment vibration and noise estimated at up to 90 decibels of unprotected exposure for an average of up to 30 minutes per day (the use of hearing protection devices to reduce noise exposure to acceptable OSHA levels is mandatory); exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists and gases from the operation of equipment and the atmosphere (the use of protective eyewear while operating power and hand tools or performing work involving potential eye injury hazards is mandatory); exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards; high exposed work sites, burns and radiant energy; exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
A variety of hand and power tools and mechanical equipment, including, but not limited to, hand and power saws; electric drills, sanders, planers; screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches and pliers; electronic and mechanical testing devices; tape measures; grinder, step and extension ladders, scaffolds; bucket truck, assigned utility truck with two-way radio; telephone, basic power tools, welder, and cutting torches.
