Description
Summary:
Our Facilities & Maintenance Intern will "learn by doing" and play a vital operational role in supporting the timely and efficient maintenance of our facility - inside and out. This is a perfect opportunity for a student starting out in their technical classes! You will receive hands-on experience and be responsible for contributing to the care and upkeep of both the internal and external aspects of our facility - including buildings maintenance, grounds management, office services support, and basic janitorial services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintenance Support:

  • Assist in performing Preventative Maintenance tasks on our mechanicals and systems, including HVAC, plumbing, water, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct basic trouble-shooting and minor repair to same systems and components. At the outset, all hands-on repair will be immediately supervised until trained proficiently.
  • Participate in the inspection and maintenance of fire safety and security systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the building and grounds to identify areas that require maintenance or repair.
  • Support response to alarms, alerts and notices for the building.
  • Assist in maintaining the interior of the building, including basic repairs (e.g.: changing out lightbulbs, door handles, plumbing clogs, etc.) and supporting basic cosmetic upgrades (e.g.: touching up paint, replacing carpet squares, replacing caulk, etc.).

Grounds Maintenance:
  • Assist in maintaining the exterior of the building, including inspection and work. Scope may include periodic inspections of external building components (e.g.: roof, windows, tuckpointing, concrete, driveway, etc.) as well as grounds (e.g.: landscaping, tree management, weed management, sidewalk and patio accessibility, lawn care, etc.)
  • Participate in snow removal and ice management of parking lots, sidewalks and patios during inclement weather. Keep the same free and clear of debris and hazards.
  • Other grounds duties, as assigned.

Housekeeping Services:
  • Collaborate with, and supplement the work of, the third-party housekeeping team to ensure a clean and organized working environment.
  • Assist in the cleaning and sanitizing of common areas, kitchens, restrooms, and office spaces.
  • Help maintain adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and paper goods for the business, and restock as needed.

Office Services Support:
  • Assist in setting up meeting rooms and event spaces as needed.
  • Help with office moves and furniture rearrangements.
  • Support mail and package distribution services.
  • Stock supplies and maintain a clean and organized office space.

Safety Compliance:
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the Facilities Manager.

Documentation and Record-Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and supplies inventory.
  • Assist in updating facility maintenance logs and reports.

Team Collaboration:
  • Collaborate effectively with the Facilities team and other departments.
  • Provide assistance during special projects and events.

Requirements
Required Education/ Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree or certificate program or pursuing a career in facility management, maintenance, or related field.
  • Will consider recent grads who completed a program within the last 12 months
  • Basic knowledge of facility maintenance principles is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications/Skills:
  • Strong willingness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of following instructions.
  • Excellent attendance history in prior roles.

Work Environment, Schedule, and Travel Requirements:
This position is expected to work 100% onsite at our corporate headquarters office in Brookfield, WI in a normal warehouse environment, including on-and-around a loading dock and digital printing shop.
The target schedule for this role will be 15-25 hours per week between the hours of 7:00am-5:00pm Monday-through-Friday. It is preferred that the person have a set schedule for the duration of the internship, however, we can accommodate a flexible schedule for the right candidate.
There will be no travel required for this role.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Physical requirements include: standing for extended periods of time, sometimes lasting up to several hours, repetitive bending and heavy lifting of up-to 70 pounds. Heavier weights will be routinely handled with team assist or with use of equipment (e.g.: pallet jack, skids, carts, etc.). The incumbent must have the physical ability to safely climb and use ladders of various heights.
