About the Department
The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University's teaching, research/administrative space, and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost-effective services to the University and ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.
The Office of the University Architect (OUA) is responsible for the creation and implementation of the University's physical master plan and other planning efforts that guide the development of the campus. OUA coordinates the implementation of the capital improvement plan in the context of the University's approved physical master plan and is responsible for space planning, analysis, and management, and provides support to the University Space Committee.
OUA is also responsible for Facilities Information System Management. This includes the development and maintenance of databases to track all space occupied by the University, statewide deficiencies in buildings, development and maintenance of computer-aided design (CAD) floor plans and maps, architectural and engineering as-built records, survey accurate mapping, utility data, geographic information system development, and coordination of access to all of this information.
Essential Job Duties
  • Responsible for supporting North Carolina State University's space inventory data that encompasses 1,100+ buildings, 47,000+ spaces, and over 17,000,000 square feet.
  • Serves as a facilities-related Data Analyst for the university specifically focused on space data.
  • Provides actionable business intelligence in consultation with management and business units for use in daily and strategic decision-making.
  • Responsible for a wide range of routine and customized space-related reporting including the programming of SQL Database queries and scripts to develop custom datasets.
  • Generates space-related reports and data visualizations for various university offices and applications to include current data summaries and historical trends. Helps others interpret data through effective and meaningful reporting.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Facilities Division and other university departments, consultants, vendors, and external agencies (UNC System Office, National Science Foundation, etc.) for space inventory data.
  • Assists other University analysts with relating their data to the space inventory data.
  • Ensures the quality and completeness of data through error report checking and periodic auditing of data.
  • Responsible for maintaining and validating all space inventory related data.
  • Close coordination is expected with the Enterprise GIS team, CAD team, and Space Planners within OUA to ensure effective and efficient data updates.
  • Develops and disseminates specialized queries and graphical reports from the space management system.
  • Participates in and supports the development and implementation of feature and data improvements to the space management system.
  • Creates and updates, any documents used to support the position, such as user's manuals, process documents, or specialized forms.

Qualifications
State Minimum Education and Experience
Master's degree in related discipline and at least one year of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree in related discipline with at least two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Passionate about the quality and accuracy of data.
  • Driven by a desire to help their customers make better decisions more quickly through the meaningful use of space-related data.
  • Detail-oriented and can work with large amounts of data quickly and intuitively. Ability to organize, catalog, and manage large volumes of data.
  • Operates with a good deal of autonomy and is expected to drive improvements into the processes and systems that are used to support this position.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of data systems, data reporting, and best practices of data visualization.
  • Knowledge and experience with Excel, and modern data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Basic process mapping and process improvement skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Space Information Systems.
  • Ability to query in Microsoft SQL Server or other equivalent relational database management system.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Experience with ESRI GIS software.
  • Basic programming skills for analyzing and manipulating data in high-level programming languages such as Python and R.
