ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members. Founded in 1936, the Institute has more than 48,000 members worldwide representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines, working in private enterprise and public service. As the preeminent, multidisciplinary real estate forum, ULI facilitates the open exchange of ideas, information, and experience among local, regional, national, and international industry leaders and policymakers dedicated to creating better places. The mission of ULI is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.
The District Council Department facilitates the exchange of information that strengthens the capacity of the Institute to deliver its mission at the local level, via its District Councils.

POSITION SUMMARY:*
In support of ULI priorities and objectives, the manager will facilitate all communications about ULI and department programs and initiatives that support the work of ULI District Council staff and member leadership in delivering on the mission at the local level. The manager will use the appropriate mix of information-sharing programs, communication channels, and vehicles that foster the exchange of useful information and alignment of ULI activities across the network, including initiatives such as America-level Young Leaders and NEXT Affinity groups.
The manager will plan and execute meetings and events for the department at ULI convenings as well as stand-alone staff and member leader retreats which support the professional and leadership development needs of member leaders and staff. The manager will provide customer-friendly service that fosters teamwork and mutual support in a highly dynamic environment.
The position is on a hybrid schedule with 2 days in ULI’s Washington DC office and requires that the Manager attends district council Events and functions in person in the US and Canada. Meetings, events, and programs may be in the early mornings or evenings.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:*

  • Plan and execute the smooth delivery of meetings, conferences, networking receptions, and dinners, including RFP development, site selection, contract negotiation, logistics management, food and beverage selection, audio-visual needs, and post-event evaluation.
  • Support content development for events including but not limited to negotiating with and coordinating with speakers and content providers, facilitating speaker requirements, travel, and logistics. Work with staff or committees on agenda and content development that meet the objectives of the event.
  • Produce and manage all department communications such as the monthly electronic staff/leader newsletter, weekly operations email to field staff, and social media channels, and manage the department’s website. Assist the Director with YLG and NEXT affinity group communications channels as needed.
  • Professionally design and produce department collateral materials including flyers, brochures, reports, PowerPoint presentations, and ads using design software such as Canva.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Branding staff to ensure all communications materials are consistent with ULI Brand Standards.
  • Maintain working relationships with ULI department staff, district council staff, and members, in order to be informed and facilitate effective communications and outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Five years of project-level management, experience, preferably working with a member-based organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex matrix, client-focused and team-oriented culture.
  • Strong written communication skills in marketing/communication capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting management and events.
  • Creative and problem-solving skills; ability to deliver programs across a wide range of priorities.
  • Advanced software skills (Word, Excel, graphics programs, website software, social media platforms, new communications technologies).
  • Talented in developing graphic materials for presentations and Marketing ULI products.
  • Well organized, able to manage complex projects and work programs to deadlines.
  • Strong ability to initiate tasks and assume responsibility for them, and to work with minimal supervision in a high-production position.
  • Proven ability to build strong relations inside organizations and with external partners.
  • Values opportunity to brainstorm with others.
