The Dupont Circle Business Improvement District (BID) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit formed in 2018 to elevate the iconic Dupont Circle neighborhood through space management, strategic marketing, and economic development initiatives. This organization is dedicated to creating a vibrant and dynamic place intended to help stimulate visitation and grow businesses. The Dupont Circle BID works to ensure that the area is clean, safe, and friendly, with attractive, well-maintained, and engaging public spaces, parks, and streetscapes. BIDs are place management organizations that bridge the gap between the public and private sectors to serve as a catalyst for growth and create a welcoming and inclusive community. Position Summary:

The Marketing and Events Manager advances the mission of the Dupont Circle BID by effectively marketing the neighborhood, providing quality brand management, communications, media relations, and social media presence. They create visibility and activation through the creation and implementation of a regular series of attractive large and small-scale events, highlighting stakeholders and drawing a wide range of visitors. Note that there are events scheduled nearly every weekend, calling for the Marketing and Events Manager to maintain a regular work schedule of Tuesday-Saturday throughout the year.

Primary Responsibilities:

Communications and Public Relations:

  • Develop media advisories and press releases for Dupont Circle BID events.
  • Maintain relationships with the media, BID members, residents, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Create twice-monthly newsletters electronically and in print.
  • Monitor media coverage, create content and post to print and digital outlets, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and listservs.

Marketing/Brand Management:

  • Oversee BID creation and production of Marketing and placemaking materials
  • Manage updates to the BID website.
  • Compile and design regular reports and presentations in partnership with the executive director
  • Work with the executive director in the development of BID Marketing and event plans and budget; support development efforts including fundraising for events ($120,000 annually) through sponsorships, grants, ticket sales, and vendor fees.
  • Coordinate with property owners, managers, retailers, and tenants on welcome initiatives.
  • Manage digital assets, including organization and maintenance of marketing communications database
  • Represent the BID at various events and meetings.

Event Management:

  • Responsible for the BID’s event calendar, organizing and implementing 12 major events, including fashion shows, fine art shows, maker shows, popups, and managing 38 smaller events on Saturdays in Dupont Circle
  • Manage monthly First Friday events to attract visitors to neighborhood art galleries
  • Market the Farmers Market and Yoga in the Park, both weekly year-round events held 52 Sundays a year.
  • Manage permitting, production, logistics, and volunteers for BID events.
  • Ensure appropriate branding and marketing for events.
  • Provide event reports that include attendance, feedback, outcomes, etc.
  • Create event tie-ins with businesses, as appropriate

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, creative, self-starter, eager to advance a Marketing and Events program from the ground up. The position will manage numerous projects simultaneously while completing myriad daily tasks, and meeting tight deadlines. They will work independently and think creatively about how to accomplish organizational objectives, while also being a team player adept at working with a nonprofit volunteer committee.

  • At least four years’ professional experience in managing events, as well as in marketing, communications, or similar field.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and demonstrated focus on accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field preferred
  • Familiarity and enthusiasm for the Dupont Circle neighborhood and the DC events environment is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite products
  • Proficiency utilizing social media outlets: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system a plus

Schedule:

Regular work schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday for optimal event coverage, with variable hours including evenings and weekends in support of community events.

Additional Position Requirements:

  • Position at times requires the lifting of light boxes containing marketing collateral and other event-related materials.
  • Some work may be virtual, but most is place-based with regular onsite presence required work to adequately accomplish role objectives
  • Minimal non-DC domestic travel required.

Reporting Relationships:

Position reports to the BID Executive Director

Compensation and Benefits:

We offer a starting salary of $75,000-$90,000, depending on experience, plus competitive benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401K match, and ample paid time off and holidays.
