Esports Coach

Bridge Leadership Academy is a nonprofit organization located in South Kansas City, Missouri. We work hands-on with middle and high school students to teach leadership development, life skills, social-emotional intelligence, study skills, and much more. We have been active in our community for over 10 years and are now looking to add a brand new program to our organization: an Esports team. Bridge Gaming will focus primarily on 12-16 year olds interested in competitive gaming, while also learning valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, self-control, communication, and more. We believe this program will help students not only transition to other Esports teams in high school and college, but also transform their lives holistically. The benefits of sports in young people’s lives is well known, but we see that students with physical limitations or a lack of interest in standard sports (football, baseball, etc) can miss out on the comradery and lessons that come with competing. This is a brand new program that we are hoping to build with the help of our community.

We are looking for an Esports coach who can help us craft this program from the ground up and run it alongside the BLA leadership staff. The Esports coach would be the leader of our group of student competitors and would develop a rapport with them to help them succeed competitively and personally. We are not only looking for a person gifted in PC gaming, but also someone with the tools and leadership skills to invest in young minds.

When:

This program is slated to officially launch in late May or early June of 2024. Esports athletes and the coach will meet at the Bridge building a minimum of twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4-6pm. Dinner would be provided at each meeting. The Esports coach would need to report to the building at 3:30 on those days and prepare to stay until at least 6:30 or until each student has left.

Essential Tasks:

• Help build the program. Work with the BLA team to determine the specifics of how Bridge Gaming operates. We have developed a rough framework that is meant to be refined once we find the right candidate for this position.
• Prepare the Esports arena for all meet ups and practices.
• Clean up and maintain all equipment and assets within the gaming space.
• Prepare lessons, workshops, and discussions for the Esports athletes personal growth.
• Attend scheduled meetings with BLA staff.
• Teach competitive skills such as strategy, teamwork, communication, and mindfulness.
• Oversee the program as a whole and constantly seek to improve it.

Job requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Some college experience is preferred but not required.
• PC Gaming experience is required. Competitive experience (i.e. you’ve competed in tournaments in person) is preferred.
• Experience working with youth is heavily preferred, but not required.
• Public speaking skills, leadership skills, and communication skills are required.
• Available a minimum of three afternoons per week, estimated 3:30-6:30 PM Tuesdays, Thursdays, and potentially every other Saturday.
• All potential candidates will need to pass a background check before being offered employment.

Schedule: Tuesdays, Thursdays, 3:30-6:30 PM, plus potentially every other Saturday. Estimated hours per week: 10-15 hours.

Pay: $20 per hour.

Pay type: 1099/Contract employment.
