One of our clients is a leading chemical manufacturing plant dedicated to producing high-quality products while adhering to the highest environmental and safety standards - they are currently looking to fill their Environmental Specialist position.
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of environmental regulations and best practices, particularly in the context of chemical manufacturing. They will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations from organizations such as OSHA, FDA, EPA, ISO, and TCEQ. Additionally, the Environmental Specialist will play a critical role in investigating environmental incidents, implementing preventive measures, and continuously improving our environmental performance.
Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of all relevant environmental regulations and ensure that the facility complies with OSHA, FDA, EPA, ISO, TCEQ, and other applicable regulations.
Environmental Investigations: Lead investigations into environmental incidents, including spills, emissions, and other environmental releases. Identify root causes and develop corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future occurrences.
Preventive Measures: Develop and implement proactive strategies to prevent environmental issues from occurring. This includes conducting risk assessments, implementing environmental management systems, and providing training to staff on environmental best practices.
Chemical Management: Manage the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Ensure proper labeling, documentation, and emergency response procedures are in place.
Environmental Monitoring: Oversee environmental monitoring programs, including air quality, water quality, and waste management. Analyze data to identify trends, assess compliance, and recommend improvements.
Permitting and Reporting: Manage environmental permits and reporting requirements. Ensure timely submission of reports to regulatory agencies and coordinate with government authorities as necessary.
Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance environmental performance, reduce environmental impact, and promote sustainability within the organization.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including production, engineering, quality assurance, and health and safety teams, to integrate environmental considerations into business processes and decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within a chemical manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, including OSHA, FDA, EPA, ISO, and TCEQ requirements.
- Strong understanding of chemical handling, storage, and disposal practices.
- Experience conducting environmental investigations and root cause analyses.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Certification in relevant environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) is a plus.
