How You Will Make an Impact?
The Environmental Programs Manager will assist in the development and execution of environmental management systems designed to ensure the plants are in compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations and that continuous improvement, pollution prevention, and compliance are a part of the plants’ main goals and objectives.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understand the principles of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Develop, plan and verify execution of required environmental monitoring programs.
  • Follow/establish processes to identify non-compliant conditions and address immediately wherever possible and ensure corrective actions are completed and sustained over time.
  • Prepare environmental reports to meet internal and external requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate recordkeeping to meet internal and external record retention requirements.
  • Gather data, analyze, interpret and prepare technical reports as required.
  • Implement environmental projects and programs both internally and externally under some supervision.
  • Support and oversee environmental purchased services, Resource Management, Chemical Management, Laboratory Sampling, etc.
  • Conduct periodic vendor audits, especially hazardous waste management vendors.
  • Perform analysis or research on environmental engineering projects.
  • Initiate and implement environmental projects. Interface with other departments, divisions/groups, suppliers, and/or other customers.
  • Regularly exchange information with others at local, regional and corporate level.
  • Remain current with new technology and new governmental regulations pertaining to environmental issues, particularly in the states where we operate if there are state environmental regulations that are more stringent than the federal ones.
  • Provide technical assistance for support personnel engaged in design, test and operations.
  • Conduct required environmental training for hourly and salaried personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining cost controls.
  • Prepare specifications and/or design drawings to implement environmental issues
  • Be an active contributor in sustainability efforts.
  • Although normal work hours are Monday to Friday, it is expected that the Environmental Programs Manager will work off-shifts to support the function of this role and is on call as first line help 24/7 if an undesirable environmental event should occur.
  • Participate in JBPCO Environment, Health & Safety audits and assist locations in developing a self-audit process between parent company’s audits.
  • May assist with other EHS duties to support EHS Department’s initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental discipline is required
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification preferred
  • 7+ years or greater of experience dealing directly with environmental management of a manufacturing operation
  • Able to travel approximately 50%
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and plan team activities
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical ability to work somewhat independently, investigate complex environmental problems and to apply technical judgment and resolve environmental problems
  • Established track record of project management
  • Ability to negotiate with agencies
  • Possess leadership traits
  • Solid event investigation and root cause analysis skills. Able to ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustainable over time.
  • Able to interface with other departments, staffs, suppliers, and other customers
  • Basic understanding of current environmental laws and regulations
You Must Be Able to
Working in an office environment in a seated position a minimum of eight hours per day is required. Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or Lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. May include lifting up to 25 pounds for files, computer printouts on occasion.
The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
