Summary:
Barr is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to join its Ann Arbor office. This person may work independently or as part of a project team to collect air, soil, surface water, sediment, and groundwater samples for field screening and laboratory analysis; direct excavation activities; and conduct surveys. Work may also include oversight of contractors and documentation of construction work. Fieldwork opportunities for this position will be year-round and will include out-of-town travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Four-year technical degree in environmental sciences or related discipline
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Demonstrated track record of performing work safely
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds
- Ability to identify and independently carry out tasks needing completion
- Strong problem-solving skills, putting forth effort to meet client needs despite obstacles
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay well-organized
- Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (approximately 25% travel and 75% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
- Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with contractors
- Previous experience collecting environmental quality samples
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Ann Abor, Michigan, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
