Your Opportunity
The role of the Environmental Engineer/Project Manager is to perform tasks and project management assignments associated with environmental assessments, hydrologic and hydrogeological studies, subsurface investigations, remediation, and monitoring projects; sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater; oversight of subcontractors; production of maps; data interpretation/evaluation and deliverable preparation.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation and management of federal and state mining projects
- Participate in proposal preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates), may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals
- Developing tables and figures using analytical data and topographic/site maps
- Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories, private locators, and drillers) while performing office assignments
- Periodic field work may be required, including mine site visits, ground water sampling, environmental drilling, and windshield surveys and other surveys
- Experience with construction oversight, remediation system operation and maintenance activities a plus, but not required
- Ensuring QA/QC and H&S requirements and procedures are identified and followed throughout a project's life cycle
- Technical work, quality review of reports and proposals and presentations
- Field work responsibilities may include field surveys, stream channel assessments, and natural community mapping; performing and leading project technical work; preparing reports; preparing environmental permitting to conduct and/or lead field work: and, groundwater sampling, drilling, soil logging, sample collection, and construction oversight
- Environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities include identifying project-specific environmental regulatory requirements, coordinating with resource agency personnel, writing and reviewing technical reports, developing environmental permit applications, presenting at public meetings, and facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects
- Demonstrates sound application of established practices, standards and guidelines
- Provide staff mentorship and training
- May review work of junior staff
- Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues
- Performing task management for sites undergoing assessment and/or active remediation
- Drafting technical reports including data entry/validation, figure preparation, and QA/QC
- Coordinating with subcontractors
- Work will be conducted under the supervision of a project manager
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Proficient in policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, leads by example, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work
- Solid skills in technical writing
- Observing and developing skills in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public
- Able to build strong relationships with key clients with respect to their technical area and the broader business objectives in their regions
- Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships
- Drives collaborative efforts within the Business Center and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work
- Good driving record and valid driver’s license required
- At least ten years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of small to large projects
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred
- Ability to travel for extended field work
- Experience in routine groundwater and soil sampling procedures
- Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, good work ethic, and a passion for high quality workmanship
- Candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills, combined with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment
Education and Experience
- A MS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related Earth Sciences. Licensed Professional Engineer/ Geologist.
- Minimum 10 to 15 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.
- Majority of time spent in office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field.
- Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
