This position is a hybrid role and does not require the employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively.

Frequent travel is required. The role includes responsibility for providing in-person and remote environmental support to multiple non-manufacturing sites such as distribution warehouses, proving grounds, design studios, training centers and engineering facilities throughout the Western U.S.  The successful candidate will be expected to live within a reasonable driving distance of Yuma, AZ.  Sites include:

  • Yuma, AZ (onsite at least once/month)
  • Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Pasadena, CA; Mountain View, CA; Reno, NV; Denver, CO; Hudson, WI (onsite at least 2 times/year)
  • Responsibility for supporting 4 other small non-manufacturing sites in CA and AZ remotely, with occasional travel to these and other small non-manufacturing sites throughout the US

As an Environmental Engineer at General Motors, you will have the opportunity to champion the air, waste and water compliance programs at multiple non-manufacturing sites and be responsible for developing processes and procedures to reduce environmental risk. You will work cross-functionally with diverse groups to create and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across multiple non-manufacturing sites. As an Environmental Leader, you will be a part of a team fulfilling GM’s Vision of Zero, Zero, Zero.

Job Overview

  • Focus on driving common environmental stewardship programs at multiple sites
  • Engage with local regulatory agencies across multiple states.
  • Engage with facility managers, plant managers, and other site personnel to garner support for environmental goals and objectives.
  • Use understanding of storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare required regulatory documentation and reports; schedule and perform compliance testing.
  • Frequent travel by car and air to visit sites and ensure environmental compliance and conformance.
  • Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems.
  • Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement. 
  • Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies and provide long-term environmental solutions.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with emphasis on Environmental Engineering preferred.
  • Regulatory knowledge.  Experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, Sewer Use Ordinances, and/or Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements.
  • Experience in Environmental Engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation.
  • Basic knowledge of the automotive manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate proficiently to all levels of management with executive presence
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead effective teams, including delegation of tasks
  • Experience determining regulatory compliance and analyzing data
