We are seeking the following:
Administration Intern
The ideal candidate will be a business administration (or related) major; this intern will learn about the day-to-day operations of a state agency and will assist with various administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, proofreading correspondence and assisting with the various coordination efforts of the entire administrative team.
Communications Intern
The communications intern will assist with communications efforts across the full VITA program, including internal, external, customer-focused, and executive communications. The candidate will be exposed to the dynamic industry of technology, while also afforded the opportunity to develop content across multiple channels, create communications plans, help develop creative materials, and support tracking of communications-based metrics. Additional consideration will be given to student candidates pursuing communications, public relations and/or marketing degrees, but it is not required for final selection.
Enterprise Solutions Interns (3 Positions)
The ideal candidates will major in IT or a related focus. These interns will assist with the day-to-day operations of VITA's enterprise services team or with the Governor's Office IT department and will assist with various IT tasks such as desktop/website/system testing, desktop support, creating analysis documents, generating PowerBI reports, and supporting various coordination efforts of the IT teams.
Finance Interns (3 Positions)
These interns will support VITA financial accounting operations and financial systems, data analysis, and reporting. The selected candidates will gain exposure to both accounting and business administration disciplines and will be required to interact verbally and in written form with internal and external customers. The ideal candidates must be organized and detail oriented to support process improvement efforts, understand data and provide analysis and recommendations. Additional consideration will be given to student candidates pursuing accounting or business administration degree, but it is not required for final selection.
Cybersecurity and Enterprise Architecture Interns (3 Positions)
Ideal candidates will be pursuing a technical based degree such as Computer Science or Computer Information Systems. There are several types of security and architecture internships available. Opportunities in cybersecurity include investigating malicious cyber activities, developing playbooks, performing vulnerability management, or participating in the security governance and risk management process. Enterprise architecture opportunities include contributing to technology strategy, evaluating the environment for technical debt, working on technology standards, and analyzing technology projects.
Customer Experience Interns (2 Positions)
The customer experience team is seeking a customer account management (CAM) intern. This position will offer an opportunity to gain work experience fostering customer relationships, codifying customer relationship management policies and practices, and will allow the opportunity to collaborate internally with cross-functional technical teams. The intern will support the documentation of departmental policies, strategic initiatives, and work guidelines. The selected intern will also identify opportunities to enhance the customer experience. The ideal candidate will have strong written communication skills and an interest in customer experience in an IT environment. Our second opportunity is an oversight and governance (O&G) internship - this position offers the opportunity to gain work experience in standard project, program and IT investment management activities in state government and will allow collaboration with business teams. The intern will provide support on process improvement initiatives, Project Management (PM) Summit planning and training activities. Ideal candidates will be from the following majors: project management, information technology, business administration, or public administration/ policy.
**Our internships will start June 3, 2024 and end August 2, 2024. This is a part-time, hourly position. No state benefits will be offered. Hours expected are up to 29 hours per week.**
VITA works in a hybrid environment. The intern may be asked to work a schedule that is split between remote and on-site. #VITAinternships #COVAinternships
Minimum Qualifications
  • Intern must be at least 18 years of age and be enrolled in a two- or four-year, or graduate-level program.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale or 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for graduate student applicants.
  • Strong communication, presentation, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Detail oriented.
  • Cover letter with top three choices of internships required.
Additional Considerations
  • Understanding of IT concepts/strategy.
  • Course work in computer programming.
  • Course work in accounting or business administration.
  • Desktop support, web and system testing.
