This position is located in the Mining and Solid Waste Management Division of the Bureau of Land and Waste Management. The individual will manage multiple projects to assist local governments and business recycling programs.
Job Duties:
- Serve as the principal point of contact for local governments
- Maintain knowledge of programs and offer/provide technical assistance
- Manage and encourage participation in Recycle Right SC Campaign, manage Recycle Here SC web maintenance and conduct site visits
- Serve as the project manager for Smart Business Recycling Program by promoting and implementing the program
- Prioritize business reporting, offer annual awards program and coordinate with local government business recycling programs
- Assist with SC Solid Waste Management Annual Report as needed
- Promote, assist, review, coordinate and track grant funding available and provided to local governments
- Promote large competitive grants on priority issues as possible (e.g., organics recovery)
- Approve artwork using grant funding
- Work with outside stakeholders and partners (e.g., Carolina Recycling Association, The Recycling Partnership, SC Department of Commerce)
- Other duties as assigned
A master's degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field and one year of environmental health or related experience; or a bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field and two years of environmental health or related experience; or an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field and four years of environmental health or related experience; or high school diploma and six years of environmental health or related experience.
*These fields include but are not limited to branches relating to Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, etc.

- Experience and/or working knowledge of solid waste management
- Must be able to write and edit documents well
- Must be be able to make professional presentations
- Must be able to work independently and on team projects
- Must be able to switch projects immediately, respond to sudden requests and meet deadlines
- In-state and out-of-state travel may be required
- Must have a valid driver's license, 10-year driving record that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to drive a state vehicle
