Description:
Clemson University seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Environmental Social Science at the Assistant Professor level. This will be a 9-month, 100% Research position in residence at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science (BICEFS) in Georgetown, SC. We seek candidates who will contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community with a strong tradition of both fundamental and applied research and our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The successful candidate will create and maintain a robust and innovative research agenda focused on the human dimensions of natural resources, decision science/risk analysis, socio-environmental systems, or environmental justice. The incumbent will have an applied focus on the complex relationships between people and the environment. The incumbent will be expected to make broad scholarly contributions to one or more of BICEFS research pillars: 1) Living Coasts, 2) Watersheds, Wetlands, and Wildlife, and 3) Tomorrow’s Forests and provide leadership in developing collaborative socio-environmental projects. Research should be targeted towards providing clear, tangible benefits to management, conservation, and policy. A central part of the successful candidate’s portfolio will focus on issues that impact South Carolina and the Southeastern U.S. (e.g., climate change).
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be expected to initiate, build, and sustain an externally funded, internationally-recognized research program, publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and complement existing faculty expertise on the main campus and at BICEFS. The incumbent’s home department and tenure-initiating unit will be the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree, or equivalent, in Social Sciences (such as Anthropology, Economics, Psychology, or Sociology), Natural Resource Management, Human Geography, or related fields, and a research focus on socio-environmental issues. Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral experience and demonstrate interest in outreach to integrate their research with community needs. The incumbent will contribute to programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion at BICEFS.
