The OVMG ENT Medical Assistant obtains medical health information from patients, assists with the patient’s visit by helping prepare the exam rooms and completing assigned tasks as directed. The Medical Assistant demonstrates integrity, productivity, and compassion to others and provides excellent communication skills with patients and team members. The Medical Assistant will be flexible and have a willingness to adapt to change. The Medical Assistant reports directly to the Office Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare exam rooms with all supplies needed to examine and/or to perform surgical procedures for patients prior to scheduled visits.
- Prepare instruments and make sure they are properly disinfected and stocked in the appropriate area.
- Triage patients and assist the patients into the appropriate exam room.
- Obtain and record medical health information and make certain the information is up-to-date and is documented appropriately in the chart prior to the appointment.
- Assist patients with completing form(s) and consent(s), if needed.
- Importing documents through internal fax, changing to appropriate status, and making certain a follow-up appointment is scheduled.
- Make certain that any pertinent imaging / labs, etc. are imported in the patient’s chart prior to the appointment.
- Assists clinician with medical treatments, procedures, surgeries, and exams.
- Counsel patients on all testing, procedures, or surgery.
- Spraying patients before scopes / debridement, if needed.
- Assist clinicians by entering appropriate information into the chart (diagnosis, sending prescriptions, procedure codes, E&M codes – scribing if needed.)
- Assists in scheduling patient’s appointments and all office procedures.
- Properly disinfect rooms and equipment with appropriate cleaning materials after each patient.
- Disinfect working areas, including clinical stations.
- Routine disinfection to suction equipment and after each contact with bloody drainage.
- Managing and documenting inventory of medical supplies and notifying appropriate personnel of items that need ordered or are on backordered.
- Stocking rooms to make sure adequate supplies are available, if needed.
- Check voice messages and respond to messages within the required timeframe.
- Receive and direct phone calls and assist patients with any needs when they call.
- Perform scheduled maintenance on equipment.
- Effective and clear communication with all coworkers and patients.
- Willingness to work as a team with your coworkers to achieve the same desired goals and to offer help when needed.
- Ability to be flexible and assist with additional tasks, if warranted.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Degree required.
- RMA / AMA Certification preferred, but not required.
- Prefer two (2) years of experience in a clinical office or practice, but not required.
- Working knowledge of managed care basics.
- Current CPR certification
- Computer skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact with physicians.
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
- Neat, professional appearance.
- Reliability and highly motivated.
- Ability to work well with coworkers.
