Be attentive, sensitive and helpful to ensure the comfort and well-being of the patients throughout their visit.
At a minimum, the MA will collect the following components of initial data for their patients: verify the patient name and DOB; vital signs' height and weight, pulse oximetry (when necessary) and chief compliant for visit; review allergies; over the counter medications; self-management goals; and preventive health information (e.g. vaccinations).
Assists physician, nurse practitioner, and other clinical staff in some or all of the following areas:
- Preparation of patients for examination/procedure.
- Retrieve patient messages (phone & OSU MyChart), route to physician and communicate physician orders back to the patient.
- Cleaning of exam or procedure rooms after use and preparing room for the next patient
Prepare and keep in order all patient charts; file or scan patient information and medical forms, reports, etc. always maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA policies and guidelines. Prepare for appointments for the following day; e.g. pre-visit planning, set up for procedures. Retrieve prescription refill requests from fax machine and enter into IHIS for physician approval. Successfully complete required IHIS training of clinical modules (i.e. Ambulatory) in order to appropriately navigate the clinical pathways of the electronic health record (EHR). Monitor usage of clinic supplies Participate in the assessment of inventory levels and the ordering process. Open, date, and distribute the mail as needed. Utilize all standard front office equipment (phone, fax, printer, multifunctional devices) Participate with interview process at the request of management.
10% Miscellaneous
Assist in maintaining a neat and clean patient care environment. Includes all patient waiting and treatment areas, storage space, lounge, lobby, and any other areas as deemed appropriate by supervisor. Scan documents into IHIS as directed by Clinicians. Ensure insurance information and forms are sent to Dominion Labs with specimens. Attend staff meetings. Inventory
- Restocking of inventories in exam rooms.
Other duties as assigned. Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other locations.
