Title: Engineering Technician
Normal Work Location: Global Innovation Center 54 South Main Street, Munroe Falls, OH 44262.
Normal Working Hours: Monday - Friday / 7am - 4pm / Full Time
Kyocera SGS Precision tools is looking to add an Engineering Technician to our R&D department. Our engineering team is dedicated to continuous improvement and optimizing machining parameters. We test materials, tools, applications and coatings and also engineer designs for improvements and operational advancements. Position Summary
The Engineer Technician position is responsible for utilizing equipment and other supplied resources for the purpose of testing and reporting on industrial cutting tools, machine tool accessories, and industrial cutting tool materials and coatings.
Essential Job Functions
  • Utilize available vertical machining centers, including probing, control navigation, machine capability, machine operation, read / write G code, and perform basic operator level preventative maintenance, etc.
  • Develop test methodology and complete tests in a timely manner, as defined in REDD. Compile report and discuss results, as needed. Distribute and archive reports, create and close jobs in REDD.
  • Participate as needed in Tool Clinics, customer visits, training sessions, demonstrations, etc., and answer technical questions by phone and email.
  • Set-up and operate with proficiency all test equipment, including: FlIR, High Speed, and High Definition cameras and related editing / analysis software.; sound and surface finish measuring equipment and related software; tool holding and fixturing systems, tool makers microscopes, hand tools, etc.
  • Fixture workpieces to accomplish tests.
  • Identify and report any machine / equipment or safety related issues observed during operation or within the department / company.
  • Develop part drawings and tool path programs using available CAD/CAM software packages to accomplish tests and / or tool demonstrations.
  • Set-up and operate load cell and rotating dynamometer; acquire, format, and interpret data.
  • Set-up and operate all measurement equipment, including: Alicona, CMM, Accu-Tool, and basic hand tools for measuring test results and cutting tool geometry.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook.

Marginal / Less Essential Job Functions
  • Monitor and maintain coolant systems.
  • Operate floor scrubber and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Operate fork lift to load chip barrels, unload material shipments, etc.
  • Shipping and receiving as required. Log material usage.

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Other Qualifications Desired
Training & Experience
  • Two plus years operating metal machining CNC machines.
  • Ability to program HAAS and Makino CNC machines is a significant plus.
  • Knowledge/practice with one or more of the following programs (GibssCAM, Mastercam, Edgecam, FeatureCAM, AutoCAD (2d), and/or AutoCAD Inventor (3d).
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routing reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking and mathematical concepts.
  • Must be familiar with and capable of working to the standards of ISO 9001:2015 pertaining to Design and Development of KSPT products (WP 8.3-01), as required by a Project Engineer within the department.
  • Must display knowledge of cutting tool geometry, tool inspection, and basic manufacturing methods used at KSPT. Must also display a general knowledge of carbide composition and manufacturing methods, as well as PVD coatings, as applicable to carbide round tools.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge regarding KSPT products, product application, and machining in general.

License Required: N/A
Visual Acuity: Must be able to visually examine tooling samples under varying magnification and read mechanical/tool drawings, precision measuring instruments and computer screens with or without accommodation.
Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify correct machining conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions: Well lit, climate controlled manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels. Position subject to occasional light to medium lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and bending. Constant use of upper extremities with frequent gripping motions and wrist deviations. Occasional reaching above shoulder height, below the waist or lifting as required to retrieve and store materials. Exposure to hazards of moving equipment and automated machinery. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing and walking. Minimal skin exposure to detergents, oils and cutting/grinding fluids and minimal exposure to fumes, dusts, mists.

  • The incumbent must successfully perform all requirements of the position training plan.

When overtime is scheduled, it is mandatory.
