SUMMARY
The Engineering Technician provides engineering and installation support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Power Systems contract. This position provides construction and operation system support for the installation and engineering of various electrical power equipment and fuel systems. This position will travel up to 80% of the time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in the enhancement and/or maintenance of existing power systems at various FAA facilities.
Performs installation of various electrical systems included but not limited engine generators (EG), EG fuel system(s), EG fuel tank(s), Uninterruptible Power Supply(s) (UPS), Static Transfer Switch, electrical distribution equipment, associated power system support equipment such as, power systems control hardware/software, HVAC, physical facility, and lighting.
Performs surveys of existing power systems and associated equipment as well as the physical facility for adequacy of exiting equipment and to ensure new power system requirements are accommodated at the FAA facilities.
Troubleshoots failures in equipment and systems.
Provides support in the demolition and disposal of current powers system equipment, such as EG, UPS, electrical distribution equipment, fuel systems and fuel tanks.
Examines and provides maintenance services for existing powers systems.
Analyzes and conducts performance tests of electronic systems.
Produces engineering technical documentation.
Provides survey reports with assessments and technical data in accordance with FAA Facility Power Systems Program.
Designs and develops engineering documents for specific electrical power system equipment installations that are included but not limited to: engine generators (EG), EG fuel system(s), EG fuel tank(s), Uninterruptible Power Supply(s) (UPS), Static Transfer Switch, electrical distribution equipment, and associated power system support equipment such as, power systems control hardware/software, HVAC, physical facility, and lighting.
Helps provide construction estimates, schedules, and project oversight.
Oversees/inspects construction related tasks (i.e., utility installation, general electrical, heavy equipment operation, welding, mechanical, etc.).
Ensures all safety requirements are met by the FAA and OHSA standards.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Technology or a related field of study and years' experience as listed below; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working as an electrical engineer focusing on power distribution systems. Must have relevant technical documentation experience. Relevant experience includes working with engineers in a prototype design development and testing environment and experience in writing / revising technical documentation for electronic / electro-mechanical systems and equipment. Experience should include working in a construction related discipline (i.e., utility installation, general electrical, heavy equipment operation, welding, mechanical, etc.).
Engineering Technician - Level 6 (required degree + 15 years of experience)
Engineering Technician - Level 5 (required degree + 12 years of experience)
Engineering Technician - Level 4 (required degree + 9 years of experience)
Engineering Technician - Level 3 (required degree + 6 years of experience)
Engineering Technician - Level 2 (required degree + 3 years of experience)
Engineering Technician - Level 1 (required degree)
CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION
CDL License Preferred
Obtain and maintain any required state and local licenses for electrical work preferred
JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Knowledge of maintenance and operation procedures of power systems and equipment
Operational knowledge of Personal Computer Systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Practical knowledge of construction, service maintenance and operation procedures of related systems and equipment
Practical knowledge of engineering methods and techniques
Practical knowledge of the construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials
Knowledge of equipment fabrication, prototype assembly and testing
Knowledge of computer systems, data processors, software and firmware applications with ability to understand FAA engineering programs, systems and equipment
Technical proficiency and effective problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to create and interpret a variety of technical materials
Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills and ability to effectively interact with others in the performance of assigned duties
Ability to prepare, read and interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams and technical directives
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and execute work
Willingness and ability to learn new concepts and techniques
Ability to effectively work both individually and in a team environment
Ability to travel to client worksites on as needed basis (approximately 80% of time)
Ability to lead and manage employees on the jobsite if necessary
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Exposure to pollutants or allergens which can adversely affect the skin and/or the respiratory system such as gases, smoke, odors, mists, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils or solvents. Exposure to hazardous working conditions including moving machinery, electricity and/or working in high places. May be exposed to hot objects, flames or sparks. The job requires the use of protective equipment such as hard hats, respirators, aprons, gloves, special clothing, safety shoes and safety glasses.
