Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-09 Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience presenting written technical and non-technical information to document findings and recommendations as well as using an electronic document management system to catalog, file, and organize engineering documents. This experience also interpreting engineering drawings and using Computer Aided Drawing programs to create new drawings of equipment and facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-10 Qualifications:
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-10, you must have one year of specialized experience which includes experience using computer drafting software to create 3D models and develop detailed contract drawings of complex structures or machinery from models for multiple engineering disciplines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. When combining education and experience, first take the number of graduate-level semester credits (or equivalent) earned in excess of 36 and divided by 18 semester credits (or equivalent). Next, take the number of months of experience divided by 12 months. Finally, add the two percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.Education: FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
