JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineering Technician with a background in product development and product testing will be responsible for partnering with our engineering and design teams to test, validate and analyze products. Responsibilities include fabrication and testing of electro-mechanical prototypes through a combination of individual effort, collaboration with internal engineering colleagues and leverage of domestic and international 3rd party resources.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with project management and design team to support products through the full development process.
Perform skilled rework and assembly of Printed Circuit Board or mechanical assemblies, including soldering to industry standards.
Devise and build test setups where needed to facilitate testing process.
Perform testing and debug to assure quality products that satisfy customer needs.
Participate and contribute to design reviews with internal and international development teams.
Author and edit technical project documentation including test procedures and result summaries to ensure the design process produces robust, reliable products.
Interface and manage tasks with other East West Business Units and 3rd party resources where capabilities to not exist in the Asheville Design Center (e.g. x-ray analysis).
Working within managed design processes (e.g., ISO9001) to ensure projects are well run.

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

QualificationsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
Education: High school diploma required. Trade school certificate, seminars, or military experience with concentration in an electrical engineering/mechanical engineering field preferred.
Experience: 5+ years' experience in a technical environment.
Competence or understanding of the processes and products of multiple engineering disciplines.
Strong soldering and PCBA rework skills (high pin count devices, small components).
Working knowledge of embedded electronics principles of operation.
Understanding of interdisciplinary product development for a variety of markets / sectors.
Familiarity with product validation and qualification test strategies and processes.
Management of lab and equipment maintenance/calibration schedules.
Ability to build trust and rapport with customers.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
