What We Are Looking For:
Power System Engineering, Inc. (PSE) is looking for a well-rounded individual to use proven design standards and applicable codes to exceed client expectations while designing and field staking overhead and underground transmission and distribution power lines. Work entails the selection of line structures, layout or spotting of structures within land corridors, and strength analysis of line structures, conductors, and components.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Work on-site at various utilities performing line design and field staking services. Overnight travel is required on a regular basis.
- Successfully design power lines in accordance with applicable codes and pre-determined design standards. Perform necessary calculations to verify that the design is in compliance with the applicable codes and standards.
- Develop design documentation such as staking sheets, plan and profiles, material lists, and material specifications. Maintain appropriate documentation of designs.
- Work with various line design & staking computer applications and in-house MS Excel spreadsheet calculations.
- Ability to respond to construction crew design questions, provide support to clients, and inspect construction.
- Ability to prepare material lists, review material specifications and apply appropriately to the design.
- Professionally engage with landowners to obtain permissions and rights of way for line projects
- Prepare applications for permitting of line projects across roads and railroads or other facility encroachments.
- Perform field reviews, analysis, and provide recommendations for joint use attachments on existing client facilities to ensure all codes and industry practices are achieved.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in applied sciences, engineering, geography, or technology-related field.
- 2+ years of experience designing transmission and or distribution lines. (Preferred, but not required).
- Knowledge of electrical utility systems, line design, and surveying practices.
Knowledge and Skills
- Staking software and/or ARC GIS a must!
- Land acquisition experience (preferred, but not required).
- Working knowledge of computer software tools including MS Word and MS Excel (required).
- Experience using AutoCAD (not required).
- National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) knowledge is desired.
- Ability to work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
