At Carpenter in Athens, we produce specialty steels for aerospace, defense, oil, and medical industries.
Ongoing Projects
1. Integration of plastic 3D printing with internal manufacturing solutions
2. Increased machine reliability through data analysis and improvement projects
3. Ergonomic and safety solutions through mechanical design
Your Role as an Intern
You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks:
1. Fine tuning and detailed setups for projects on large industrial 3D printer.
2. Data analysis to support enhanced machine reliability.
3. At least one Lean improvement project (Yellow Belt level) to be completed.
4. Simple mechanical design solutions for problems existing at department work centers.

You must be:
Pay Range
Hourly rates are based on: 1 - Program of study; 2 - Degree type (i.e., Bachelor's); 3 - Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). The range for this position is $19.00- $23.00 per hour.
Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible)
Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Tanner, AL area (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Tanner, AL area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.

What Do We Require?
You must be:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Willing and able to work on-site at our Tanner, AL location.
- Ideal candidates will have experience with 2D/3D Modeling (Solidworks, Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD); 2D Detailed Drafting; 3D printing experience and academic exposure to physics (statics/dynamics)
- Characteristics that will make someone successful on this team include willingness to be mentored; good work ethic and someone who enjoys working in teams.
- US Citizen or US Green Card Holder.
