Engineer – Entry Level to Chief Professional Engineer
This position would perform Entry Level to advanced, independent engineering work based on qualifying skill set. Duties may include reviewing permit applications, preparing technical reports of findings, assisting in permit compliance, assisting in engineering analysis, planning and design, management of engineering construction, maintenance, and operations projects, and serving as a project manager.
Additional consideration given for the ability to perform modeling, data collection, statistical analysis, analyze hydrologic, hydraulic, and engineering data for water quality and supply projects, and to use standard engineering methodology for calculating and modeling stormwater runoff, floodplain/floodway analysis, groundwater recharge, and surface water storage. Perform complex engineering analysis, planning, design, construction, and management of engineering for major water quality, water supply, flood improvement, and natural system projects are highly preferred.
Qualifications:
Engineering Specialist: Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field, preferably in civil, environmental, hydraulic, agricultural or water resources., Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in customer service or public service preferred. Required experience multi-tasking and managing several projects simultaneously. Valid drivers’ license.
Engineer I: Requirements of Engineering Specialist PLUS: Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification required. Preferred certifications and licenses include: Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM), licensed water well contractor, Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector, Florida Certified Contract Manager (FCCM).
Engineer II: Requirements of Engineer I PLUS: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in customer service or public service, official record research, property legal descriptions (metes and bounds), floodplain management, and boat handling preferred.
Engineer III: Requirements of Engineer II PLUS: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in stormwater permitting, stormwater runoff, floodplain/floodway, retention/detention system design, hydrologic, hydraulic, or other experience directly related to the Office in which the position is assigned. Preferred experience includes customer service or other public service; experience in floodplain management, project management, and/or boating.
Professional Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a related engineering field, preferably in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural, water resource, hydrodynamics, hydraulics, drainage, or stormwater engineering. Specified type of engineering degree may be required based on the assigned Office within the District. Florida licensed Professional Engineer required. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Professional Engineer. A master’s degree in engineering may substitute for one (1) year of experience as a Professional Engineer. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in stormwater permitting, stormwater runoff, floodplain/floodway, retention/detention system design, hydrologic, hydraulic, and/or project management. Two (2) years of experience with customer service or other public service. Regulatory experience strongly preferred. The following certifications are preferred: Florida Certified Contract Manager (FCCM), Project Manager Professional (PMP) Certification, Certified Floodplain Manager, Certified Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector, Management/Leadership Certification. Valid drivers’ license.
Chief Professional Engineer: Requirements of Professional EngineerPLUS: Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience as a Professional Engineer. A master’s degree in engineering may substitute for one (1) year of experience as a Professional Engineer. Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in stormwater permitting, stormwater runoff, floodplain/floodway, retention/detention system design, hydrologic, hydraulic, and/or project management. Six (6) years of experience with customer service or other public service.

Salary Range: $42,494.40 - $121,097.60.
Pay Grade 110-118; Starting salary commensurate with selected candidate's competencies and qualifications.
