Employee Relations Manager
Full-Time
Reports to: Sr. Director, Employee Relations
Summary:
The Employee Relations Manager is a member of the Employee Relations team, which supports a positive work environment for employees and leaders. The team advises and coaches managers on addressing varied performance issues and corrective actions, engages in conflict resolution, investigates discrimination, wage & hour, and misconduct complaints, advises on leaves of absence and accommodations, and assists with other matters requiring subject matter expertise in employment practices.
The Employee Relations Manager works with line managers to guide, advise, and directly address Employee Relations issues, ensuring resolution of issues in a timely, effective manner, consistent with HSS policies and procedures. This role will serve as a primary liaison between Employee Relations and the Leave Management Unit as it relates to complex leave and accommodation issues. This person will also oversee tracking and reporting ER-related data and metrics, which will be used to identify trends and develop action plans.
Responsibilities:
- Advise and partner with managers to fairly address performance and/or conduct issues with consistency and efficiency, while demonstrating appropriate nuance and adaptability
- Coach, educate and empower managers on correct methodology for addressing and preventing issues
- Partner with, guide, and educate managers in addressing attendance and lateness matters
- Act as primary Employee Relations partner to the Leave Management team, advising and guiding on complex leave and accommodation situations
- Identify and recommend areas to educate and empower managers and employees
- Manage the ER Metrics database, ensuring accuracy and providing reporting
- Pull data and help analyze ER metrics to identify trends; partner with ER team to recommend preventive strategies and long-term solutions surrounding employee issues and actions
- Remain abreast of current and changing employment laws
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or relevant experience
- Minimum of 5 years in an Employee Relations role, or as an HR Generalist with significant Employee Relations experience
- Working experience researching and understanding employment laws and regulations
- Positive, solutions-focused mindset
- Resourceful – able to implement things that may not have been done before
- Ability to effectively manage time to handle multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative, with proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships
- Confident and decisive in advising others
- Impeccable attention to detail and follow-through
- Strong technical and analytic skills, comfortable working with HR data
- Active listener; ability to interpret to both verbal and nonverbal communications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Healthcare experience a plus
