This position answers emergency telephones, dispatches ambulances, and takes control of an emergency scene until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrive. Completes billing forms, maintains computer logs, arranges air flights, and coordinates fire and police assistance and advanced life support intercepts.

A Day in the Life as a Dispatcher:
- (40%)* Receives incoming emergency ambulance requests. Dispatches ambulances to emergency and non-emergency situations.
- (30%)* Determines the need for police and/or fire-rescue assistance and contacts the appropriate law enforcement agency.
- (30%)* Maintains daily computer logs for both Gladwin and Midland EMS. Maintains daily computer statistics for Gladwin and Midland.
Requirements We Are Looking For:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Require knowledge of basic life support and emergency medicine as normally acquired through completion of Basic EMT program and licensing.
- Completion of training program within departmental orientation to obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
- 1 year field experience preferred
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completes all billing forms using proper codes and obtaining any additional information needed.
- Receives and schedules non-emergency transfers.
- Maintains adequate coverage for both Midland and Gladwin departments by shifting vehicles.
- Determines and coordinates Advanced Life Support (LS) and helicopter intercepts.
- Takes control of scene via telephone giving pre-arrival Emergency Medical directions to family, patient, or bystanders.
- Demonstrates competency in Microsoft® Windows.
