Description:

CESA 6 is looking for an energetic, self-motivated individual to be our Special Education Teacher beginning with the 24-25 school year.


SUMMARY:
The Alternative School Teacher reports directly to the Alternative Education Center Director and works with students who require a more structured educational setting that focuses on their social and emotional learning as well as academics in an alternative setting. The Alternative School Teacher provides social and emotional instruction, as well as academic instruction to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities in an off site setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform all aspects of classroom management, preparation and implementation of current teaching strategies.
  • Teach general academics following the general curriculum /state standards to students

with emotional and behavioral challenges.

  • Teach daily social and emotional learning skills (SEL), regulation skills, executive functioning and problem solving skills.
  • Work collaboratively with a strong teaching/support team involving a variety of educational professionals.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Create and promote a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment that meets the individual needs of each learner.
  • Perform all aspects of classroom management, preparation and implementation of current/best practice teaching strategies.
  • Promote continuity between the CESA 6 Alternative Program and student’s home school district staff.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate and functional IEP goals and objectives.
  • Monitor student's academic and behavior performance; collect IEP data on a regular basis.
  • Collect and analyze student performance data accurately to develop and maintain effective instructional outcomes
  • Use Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training methods when the need arises for physical intervention with students.
  • Submit forms, paperwork and follow procedures by the established timelines
  • Maintain appropriate attendance/punctuality
  • Practices continuous professional growth based on feedback, research and best practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience, Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Special Education Teacher certification from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, or working toward appropriate certification.
  • Extensive and current knowledge of specific disabilities, including appropriate instructional techniques/methods, behavioral interventions, and effective classroom organization and structure.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations and policies on state and federal laws related to programming for alternative education.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification in NonViolent Crisis Intervention Training (not required, but willing to be trained)

  • Computer skills, including email, Google Drive, word processing and virtual meeting facilitation.
  • Professionally represent the agency, public and school districts in interactions with staff, customers and community.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in multiple settings, including several Alternative School Programs and CESA 6 office locations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, assisting students with significant behavioral needs including verbal and physical aggression.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to effectively communicate in person, via phone and in writing.
  • The employee may occasionally push, pull, carry, lift and/or move equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Due to the physical nature of students within the Alternative Schools Program, the position may be required to perform trained crisis prevention techniques, which may require restraining a student ranging in weight and/or height.
  • Ability to react quickly to student’s movement and behavior.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn, twist, squat, and/or climb.


Schedule: 190 Days
