Essential Functions:
1. Ensure equity practices are integrated into the daily operation of the school building.
2. Establishes and maintains a dynamic learning climate in the school.
3. Serves as the primary instructional leader for the school.
4. Stays current in research and best practices for leading learning and fostering engagement.
5. Administers employee performance evaluation/growth processes for professional and support staff.
6. Follows district hiring processes and hires outstanding staff who are committed to the learning of every student.
7. Follows district procedures for induction of new professional and support staff and provides site-based induction.
8. Promotes recognition of staff and student achievement.
9. Promotes employee wellness.
10. Supports school through the use of proactive culture and climate strategies, Conscious Discipline and/or positive behavioral intervention supports (PBIS) with an emphasis on responsibility, safety, engagement, and problem solving.
11. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, observing due process for the rights of students and following established guidelines.
12. Develops and manages the building budget, aligned to district and school goals and initiatives.
13. Assures an ongoing process of data collection and analysis to gain information that informs school improvement efforts, assists teachers in planning for instruction, and assists the board of education in determining the future needs of students.
14. Involves the staff, students, and community in continuously improving the strategic planning processes of the school.
15. Assigns duties to staff members as prescribed by general policies, collective bargaining agreements and regulations.
16. Makes regular inspections of the school building and reports safety and other concerns to appropriate personnel.
17. Attends school sponsored activities and functions.
18. Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence, news releases, and publications.
19. Serves on committees and attends meetings as directed by the superintendent or members of the executive team.
20. Handles, investigates, and remedies legitimate complaints and refers to the director of Elementary Schools those cases which the principal cannot resolve.
21. Delegates responsibility for the school during the absence of the principal.
Qualifications:
1. Current valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction administrative certification in the respective classification. (DPI Code 5051 – Principal)
2. Minimum of 5 years successful experience as a teacher and demonstrated instructional leadership.
3. Willingness to implement a community-shared mission and vision grounded in providing equitable opportunities for all students.
4. Expertise in change management, equitable instructional practices, standards based learning, and family engagement and community outreach.
5. Successful experience in bringing staff and community with divergent interests to consensus.
6. Skilled in oral/written/electronic communication.
7. Knowledge of current educational research and willingness to implement and foster innovative practices.
8. An asset-based approach to working with students, staff, and community.
9. Ability to build and sustain open, collaborative relationships with teachers, community, and support and administrative staff.
10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
