    Salary
    • Support Salary Grade S11: $26.11 per hour; starting

    Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.
    Role
    The Electrician Journeyperson performs complex technical work, on a journeyman level, in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of commercial electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro-mechanical systems, in accordance with applicable Electrical Industry Codes.
    Essential Functions
    Reporting directly to the Maintenance Area Supervisor or designee performs the following duties:
    Position Specific
    • Performs preventive maintenance by inspecting, testing, servicing electrical and electro-mechanical systems, and repairing malfunctioning equipment.
    • Documents the cost of repairs and services by keeping records of time and materials to be charged to each job using the work order system and providing updates to the designated supervisor regarding the status of work projects, material consumed, and man-hours utilized.
    • Ensures that electrical distribution systems, are safe, meet the requirements for electrical power, and comply with applicable codes by maintaining, modifying, and repairing those systems.
    • Inspects and tests elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions, performs required repairs through replacement of inoperative parts or re-wiring of circuits, and provides an estimate of repair (and/or replacement) costs for work beyond their capability to perform.
    • Calculates branch circuit loads, interprets electrical wiring diagrams and schematics, and determines methods and requirements for wiring circuits.
    • Troubleshoots and repairs electric controls, motor control centers, and programmable logic controls.
    • Contributes the oversight and professional development of Electrician Apprentices.
    • Contributes to the overall success of the Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    • Scope of the position requires working with electrical systems, wiring, and currents that have the potential for serious injury, and therefore proper safety measures must be used.
    • Performs work in accordance with building code, safety regulation, and trade standards of quality.
    • Identifies and reports hazards, and protect self and others to reduce or eliminate risk.
    • Properly inspects, operates, and maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment.

    • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

    • Obtain and retain certification required of job classification.
    • Attend and participate in training, and satisfy testing requirements.
    • Mentor and coach employees of lesser job classification.
    • Travel frequently between facilities, operating vehicles in accordance with FCPS regulation.
    • Wear provided uniform and personal protective equipment.
    • Use provided digital device to receive, process, and record labor and material for work tasks.
    • Monitor company-provided communication device during work hours.
    • Provide exceptional customer service and provide effective communication.
    • Provide timely response to facility emergencies occurring outside of normal business hours.
    • Accommodate reassignment between workgroups and work locations.
    • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

    Required Qualifications
    Education/Training/Experience
    • High school diploma, or a high school equivalency diploma (GED).

    Certification/License
    • State of Maryland Journeyperson Electrician License.
    • Valid driver’s license, maintained in compliance with FCPS regulation.

    • General - Operate, inspect, and maintain vehicles and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition. Utilize, maintain, and safeguard tools and instruments of the trade. Maintain work areas in a clean, safe and sanitary manner (Equipment Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Tool Management, Self-Management).
    • General - Model high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for the individual by applying these values to daily behaviors (Integrity, honesty).
    • Efficient and Effective Operations - Operate equipment in an efficient manner. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and quality of service. Ensure efficient and effective facility operations, including employee work standards and safety, compliance, building efficiency, and occupant health and comfort.
    • Operations and Maintenance - Work within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and complete all required forms to document repair status and work orders (CMMS).
    • Operations and Maintenance - Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair indoor and outdoor electrical fixtures and devices.
    • Trades Specific - Perform tasks in all trade disciplines in support of the area maintenance/repair functions, especially HVAC.
    • Trades Specific - Utilize utility representatives, building and site drawings, and local knowledge to understand underground utilities and conduct safe operations and maintenance activities.

    Physical Requirements
    Sit, walk, stand, lifting or carrying, pushing or pulling, reach at or below shoulder level, reach above shoulder level, gross manipulation, fine manipulation, foot or leg controls, driving, bend/stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, speaking, hearing (in person, telephone, indicators/alarms), near visual acuity, far visual acuity, and peripheral vision.
    Strength
    Constantly lifts, pushes, or pulls up to 20 pounds; frequently lifts, pushes, or pulls up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts, pushes, or pulls over 50 pounds.
    Work Environment
    Required to wear uniform and personal protective equipment, work indoors and outdoors, work from elevated work surfaces, work around moving vehicles and equipment, and exposed to extreme weather conditions, noisy environments, small or enclosed spaces, slippery and uneven work surfaces, and odors and fumes.
