Job Description
TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Technician Engineer position. This position will require working alongside other TDI employees, US Navy engineers, other contractors, and Navy Ship’s Force in order to support design, implementation, and sustainment of US Navy shipboard network designs for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) applications. This position will involve collaboration with the Naval Sea Systems Command, TDI’s primary customer for this contract, other contractors such as the original equipment manufacturers and ship design and integrators, and test and certification personnel in the field. Tasking will include testing, planning, troubleshooting, and documentation of issues identified in both software and hardware for embedded systems, networks, and wiring. This position will require troubleshooting existing systems, proposing improvements to test processes and methods, and providing insights on system procedures, documentation, and schematics. This position may require test support both in the lab environment as well as on-ship in various ports where ships are undergoing maintenance availability periods. The candidate must be comfortable working with electrical, computer, and mechanical systems.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Provide on-site support for the installation, Test & Evaluation, troubleshooting, repair, and alteration of machinery networked equipment
2. Lead efforts in on-site validation and verification (V&V) of machinery control system consoles, terminal boxes, interfaces, and other hardware for surface combatant vessels
3. Execute test procedures
4. Record and report test results
5. Oversee live operations of rotating machinery as part of test operations
6. Troubleshoot control systems, utilizing documentation, electrical and computer tools, and schematics
Education and Experience Requirements:
1. 5 or more years of experience as an engineer or Electrical Technician, tracing signals, diagnosing electrical failures
2. 1 or more years of experience testing software
3. Experience in US Navy or maritime systems is preferred
4. Training or coursework in an engineering discipline is preferred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.
2. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Essential Skills:
1. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to use an electrical multimeter and oscilloscope
2. Knowledge of basic electrical principles to include understanding current, voltage, power, resistance, continuity, and grounding
3. Familiarity with software systems, basic understanding of operating systems, applications, computer networks in order to troubleshoot
4. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
5. Problem solving abilities
6. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills
8. Shipboard or industrial experience with machinery control system installation, operational testing, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred
9. Experience troubleshooting machinery control systems is preferred
10. Ability to use electrical and software based analysis tools including network traffic analyzers (such as Wireshark, HyperTerminal, Putty, or similar) is preferred
11. Familiarity with VME bus and analyzers is preferred
Travel:
This position may require up to 50% travel. A passport will be required. Travel may be extensive and could result in being away for months at a time to support large projects such as installs and ship conversions.
