Job Title: Electrical Controls Technician
Department: Engineering / Maintenance
Reports To: Control Engineer
Job Summary:
This position performs duties under the general direction of the Control Engineer. The position works independently to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and/or modify the Plant’s Mechanical, Electrical and Computer driven controls systems. Also includes the installation of electrical conduit and machine/building wiring as needed.
Job Requirements:
1) Experience in trouble-shooting Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen-Bradley preferred).
2) Experience with DC and AC motors, VF Drives and Servo Controlled Systems (Allen Bradley preferred).
3) Experience with relay and discrete device control systems.
4) Experience using sensing and control devices.
5) Experienced in the use of electrical diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, amp clamps and meg meters
6) Prefer experience in electrical installations with conduit and wiring practices.
7) Experience reading equipment manuals, MSDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), electrical schematics and blueprints.
8) Proficient in the use of common hand tools and hand-held power tools, and their safe operation while following OSHA and company safety guidelines
9) Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
Job Duties:
1) Interface with Production Operators and Maintenance to troubleshoot electrical issues with equipment.
2) Assist with system startups and operational checkouts including wiring, calibration, grounding and power testing.
3) Utilize technical materials such as equipment manuals, MSDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and maintain systems.
4) Perform PM’s on specified equipment as assigned
5) Aid in the installation of Process and/or Building Equipment
6) Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work 20 ft. off the ground from a ladder, forklift cage, or lift platform
• Ability to work in confined spaces (with appropriate safety equipment)
• Ability to carry 50 lbs. for 50 ft. • Ability to carry, set up, and climb a 30’ extension ladder
• Full range of motion of all joints
• 20-20 vision (may use corrective lenses), ability to see all primary colors
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
1) Associates degree in Electronics / Electrical Technology required, along with minimum of 3 years of appropriate experience preferred. Equivalent education and Experience considered.
2) Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
3) Proficient in the use of computers for handling PLC troubleshooting, work orders, email, etc.
