Job description

Under supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled routine electrical/instrumentation and electro-mechanical equipment including industrial electrical distribution systems, water pumps, and telemetry systems.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies office and shop electrical systems at City facilities, water treatment plants, storage facilities, pumping plants, and remote well sites;
  • Installs and maintains electrical circuits, relays, switch gear, wiring, electronic alarms, process control equipment, and Instrumentation equipment used in the operation of a modern municipal utilities system;
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, programs, calibrates, tests, and monitors equipment used in water treatment plants and systems, including SCADA and radio equipment, and electrical power generating equipment;
  • Tests and repairs reservoir cathodic protection systems and automated control devices;
  • Tests, maintains, and repairs metering and recording instrumentation, control apparatus, data logging, display equipment, communication and telemetry systems;
  • Orders parts, materials, and supplies required for Electrical and other repairs;
  • Reads and interprets manuals, blueprints, maps, wiring diagrams and schematics;
  • Maintains records and reports of work performed and update drawings, maps, schematics and blueprints to reflect changes to systems;
  • Informs supervisor and co-workers of present and potential problems and hazards;
  • Assists with the training of personnel, as requested; and
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience:
  • Three years of journey man level experience in electrical repair and maintenance working in the water/wastewater industry;
  • Experience in a conventional water treatment plant or similar facility is preferred.
Education:
  • College level coursework in water technology, electronics technology, computer science, information technology or related field. For coursework complete outside of the US an official equivalent is required.
  • Completion of apprenticeship program is desirable.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain a valid class California drivers license at the time of appointment.
  • Water Treatment Operator T2 or Water Distribution Operator D2 Certification from the State Water Resources Board within 9 months of employment.
  • Electrical Specialty License (C-10) or CWEA EIT certification is desirable.
Special Requirements:
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Ability to travel to different sites and locations;
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb, and lift up to 100 pounds;
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms;
  • Must be able to communicate with others and to exchange information accurately;
  • Exposure to outdoors, heat, noise, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
  • Ability to wear personal protection equipment; ability to walk on uneven surfaces; must be available for stand by and call-out duty.

Failure to provide all required documents will result in elimination from the selection process.
