Purpose
Position will provide assistance to TACC team members, who will train temporary technician on proper steps for replacing computer parts, cable handling and building general data center activities. TACC staff will train the temporary technician on replacement procedure for removing an existing cooling block, and correctly refitting the new one in place without damaging any of the server's components. All associated tests necessary for returning a server to production will be taught and will be required by the technician for competition of each cooling block replacement. Task requires working in the machine room and using torque-limiting screwdrivers.
Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and the ability to replace computer components
  • Experience with all types of network cables and the ability to install them
  • Ability to follow detailed plans and instructions.
  • Document all information on parts replaced and equipment serviced.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work in a data center with cooler temperatures and lower humidity
  • Ability to work around high noise levels, worker may need to use provided ear protect to prevent hearing damage
  • Ability to follow safety measures including precautions around machinery, proper clothing, closed toe shoes, and safety gear
  • Ability to adhere to access restrictions including only authorized personnel entering the machine room
  • Ability to climb and stand on ladders and scaffolding
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift and move equipment when necessary

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with handling replacement of cooling blocks

Salary Range:
$25 per hour + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions

  • Lifting and moving of heavy items.

Employment Eligibility:
