Reports to: Operations & Metering Supervisor
Job Summary: This position is responsible for the installation, repair and testing of single phase and polyphase electric meters as well as servicing of street lights and traffic signals.
Essential Duties
- Perform customer service orders on all types of electrical metering, including resumes, disconnects, non-pay disconnects, stop reads, high or low usage investigations, power quality investigations, after-hours reconnects, AMR initiated service orders, and others as needed.
- Test, repair and install meters and meter equipment.
- Inspect, test and repair/replace street lights, traffic signals and other lighting systems as directed.
- Install primary and polyphase meter and meter equipment such as potential transformers, current transformers, test blocks, etc.
- Construct, test and install both primary and secondary transformer rated metering application, keep detailed records and provide after-hour support for repairs and installations.
- Install and troubleshoot various parts of the AMI system.
- Assist in substation and distribution work as needed.
- Maintain records and documentation of equipment and work performed, including revenue accuracy audits.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; including or supplemented by courses in the theory of electricity.
- At least two years of training and/or education in the electronics field.
- Considerable knowledge of the various types of electric meters and meter equipment; usage, construction and repair.
- Working knowledge of electric meter testing devices and other types of electric and electronic equipment and control devices.
- Knowledge of electrical theory and its application to metering.
- Experience in the installation, testing and repair and uses of various types of electric meters.
- Residency within 20 miles of municipal boundaries.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents – 5, Graphic Literacy – 4, Workplace Observation - 3).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Proximity to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment.
- Outside working conditions with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
