Reports to: Operations & Metering Supervisor
Job Summary: This position is responsible for semi-skilled work in the installation, repair, test and removal of single and poly phase meters as well as maintenance on street lights and traffic signals.
Essential Duties
- Perform customer service orders on all types of electrical metering; including resumes, disconnects, non-pay disconnects, stop reads, high or low usage investigations, power quality investigations, after-hour reconnects, AMR initiated service orders, and others as needed.
- Perform general maintenance on BPW and City lighting systems including BPW street lighting, BPW facilities, DDA, Historic District, parks, and other lighting systems as directed.
- Assist in construction, testing, and installation of both primary and secondary transformer rated metering applications, keep records and provide after-hour support for repairs and installations.
- Perform traffic signal maintenance, including light change outs, aerial repairs, controller repairs, and provide after-hour support for traffic repairs.
- Perform qualified assessment duties during Electrical T&D widespread outages and local outages if needed.
- Perform increasingly difficult and skilled work approaching the Electric Distribution Technician II position as training occurs.
- Assist in the maintenance of various equipment under the care of Operations and Metering.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; including or supplemented by courses in the theory of electricity.
- Knowledge of electrical theory and its application to metering.
- Residency within 20 miles of municipal boundaries.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents – 4, Graphic Literacy – 4, Workplace Observation – 3).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Proximity to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment.
- Outside working conditions with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
