Summary:
Under the supervision of the EHS Director, the EHS Specialist performs diverse and complex duties requiring thorough knowledge and understanding of all applicable procedures and policies pertaining to OSHA’s General Industry Standards and/or the applicable EPA & State environmental regulations. Applicants should have proven safety/environmental experience or knowlede in a manufacturing environment and experience in overseeing implemented safety programs.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for assisting the Safety and Environmental Department in assigned workload, which may include clerical functions according to set timeframes and guidelines.
- Work directly with the Worker’s Compensation Manager to ensure case files are readily available on the server and stored in an organized manner.
- Assist in implementation and continuous improvement to all environmental related programs and policies including, but not limited to: Air Permitting, Water Permitting, Waste Water, Hazardous Chemical Disposal, Chemical Storage and Spills and Stormwater management.
- Assist, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Work directly with site staff and management to address safety concerns, developing strong working relationships with leadership to help lead safety programs for entire departments.
- Monitor department safety metrics and OSHA logs for the site.
- Conduct post-accident investigation and prepares reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
- Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures and follow up to ensure approved measures are implemented.
- Maintain all safety files and records for regulatory compliance.
- Conduct site walkthroughs and formal audits to identify hazards and prepare corrective action plans.
- Project Management working directly with Engineering or relevant stakeholders to provide support and lead projects in site safety capital funding. This includes identifying risks, contacting vendors, and drafting CER’s for approval.
- Plan and implement authorized training for current employees in safe work practices. Must also monitor training expirations and perform training as needed through various shifts. This includes Fall protection, Confined Space Entry, Powered Industrial Trucks and Lockout/Tagout.
- Perform training for New Employee Orientation including Lockout/Tagout, General Practices and Behavioral training.
- Manage the Personal Protective Equipment Program. This work includes cost tracking, managing the PPE vending system, safety shoes and other PPE as needed throughout the facility.

- Experience in OSHA, DOT and EPA regulatory requirements is preferred.
- Excellent Computer, communication and training skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related major with 0-2 years of experience and an Associate's degree with 1-3 years.
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing safety or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Excellent MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and computer skills.
