Summary/Objective:
The EHS Manager provides hands-on environmental, safety, and health leadership to the site management team. Responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of environmental, health and safety programs and objectives. Responsible for assuring that training of identified topics has been completed within in regulatory and internal standards.  Monitors federal and state safety and health regulations and provides technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance. 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works closely with staff in operations, management, human resources, purchasing, production, and maintenance. 
  2. Provides information and technical safety and health support to production personnel. 
  3. Assists and supports plant leadership to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. 
  4. Maintains a safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals). 
  5. Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company signage, email memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs. 
  6. Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur. 
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily working indoors, office environment.
  • May sit or stand for several hours at a time.
  • May be on the floor/in the work, could be exposed to elements (heat, snow, etc.)
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
  • Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or three to five years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Essential Functions:
  1. Prepares written safety and health programs and policies. 
  2. Identifies company safety training needs and develops a safety training plan. 
  3. Assist the local Management Team developing goals to effectively reduce workplace injuries. 
  4. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of EHS programming.  
  5. Audits on a periodic and regular basis to evaluate facility compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations. 
  6. Effective implementation of Corrective Actions to assure that non-compliance issues are corrected and that workplace injuries are not repeated. 
  7. Participates in new process reviews, including process hazard analysis, standard operating procedures, employee training, etc. 
  8. Aids plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment. 
  9. Leads the monthly plant safety committee meetings. 
  10. Assists as needed in implementation of a near miss communication program and preparation of requested reports. 
  11. Reviews process/operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations. 
  12. Provides technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations. 
  13. Advises manufacturing plants of regulatory changes with which the plants must comply, providing sufficient advance notice so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured. 
  14. Audits practices of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations. 
  15. Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses, restricted duty work, and worker’s compensation claims. 
  16. Reviews monthly plant safety meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary. 
  17. Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary. 
  18. Administers first aid to ill and injured persons and provides transport to an urgent care clinic or emergency room.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will potentially have direct reports.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The Team Member may have to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and the expected work hours are decided by the hiring manager. Occasional evening and weekend work is required as needed. 
Travel:
Travel is primarily local and between locations. Schedules are flexible and will possibly require infrequent out of state travel. 
Preferred Education and Experience:3-to-5-year professions EHS/Safety experience in a manufacturing setting
